Saturday Slight

Sandpoint High art teacher Zabrielle Dillon was one of my journalism students way back when.

Most readers know that we Love's have a close connection with the Bonner Community Food Bank through Debbie Love, its beloved director.

So, of course, it's exciting to feature the announcement above on this Saturday morning.

A fun event for a meaningful and important purpose.

Looks like a winner for all sides to me.

Mark it on your calendar and pass the word.

I know I'm not the only one in Dr. Michelle Ward's vast cheering section who is thrilled for her and equally excited for the Sandpoint area community of pet owners.

When the doors open at Family Pet Urgent Care this coming Monday, pet owners will have a local venue for emergencies.

And, Michelle, an accomplished and experienced veterinarian who has practiced in the Northwest and in missions around the world, will be realizing a long-awaited dream come true.

As one who has known her since her teen years and marveled at her energy, enthusiasm and devotion to animals, I can attest that we are lucky, indeed.

Michelle, a hometown product, will make us all proud and provide us a service for our beloveds that has been needed for some time.

Best of luck to you and your staff, Michelle.

Pets and their owners are thrilled.

Passionate speeches, personal stories, cars honking, messages on signs, symbolic displays, some chanting and quiet support highlighted the Reproductive Life Rally on International Women's Day in downtown Sandpoint yesterday.

The event came one year after Bonner General Health announced in 2023 that it would no longer provide labor, delivery and obstetrical services.

Approximately 200 attended the event held at Third and Cedar in front of the hospital's south parking lot yesterday afternoon.

I spent a few minutes at the event taking pictures and hearing the repetition of one prominent four-letter word aimed toward all who continue to feel the frustration of this community loss.
