Drops Aplenty

I was hoping to get some lawn mowed yesterday afternoon.  The result:  some but not much.

Twice while making swaths through scraggly grass and white clover, I left the mower and went into the house, waiting for what I thought were brief showers to pass.

The second shower quickly progressed from brief to a steady and pounding rain, which eventually lessened but continued throughout the afternoon.

So, the lawnmower sat, and I worked on other projects.

It's been a great year for water droplets on flower petals.

Yesterday was no exception, and, again, I'm not complaining too much about the rain because the flowers have been amazing this year and they've lasted.

While it was pouring rain, I checked in with my neighbor Naomi to make sure I was still on their hay list.

She assured me that I am, and she noted the rain and hoped for it to stop so they can start cutting hay.

That's the only problem with moisture in July.  It often shuts the windows for hay harvest.

And, of course, it causes a little frustration for the lawn-mowing kings and queens in the area.  I know that two lawnmowers got a rest yesterday because I could hear my next-door neighbor mowing while I was doing the same.

Oh well, maybe today will be dry.  All will be well, but the droplets won't be around to make the flowers look so exquisite.

While stuck inside, I worked on compiling information for an upcoming local horse show which I'll be announcing.

It's my first horse-show announcing gig in more than ten years, so, as an oldster, who's watching people older than I running for President, I'm hoping my voice will hold out, my mind will work and that it's not beastly hot the weekend of July 13-14.

If all of the above work out, the weekend should be fun, as always.

It's the Spots of Fun Open Horse Show, sponsored by the North Idaho Appaloosa and, once again as has been the case for decades, it's spearheaded by a member of the Leen family.

Moriha took over organization of the show after both of her parents, Kenny and Moreen, had teamed up, along with other family members, for years to coordinate a fun weekend of competition for area horse lovers.

The first day of the show features halter competition and English classes, while Western riders will compete the second day in showmanship, equitation and general pleasure classes. Trail classes will be held both days.

Anyone wishing to enter some Spots of Fun competition can pick up class lists/rules and entry blanks at Co-Op or contact show secretary Tina Tomonelli (208-946-9113) (email:  igotspots@hotmail.com).

Laura Bakker, an experienced horse trainer, teacher, clinician and judge from Missoula, Mont., will judge the show.

There will be a food truck on the grounds throughout the show.  You can learn more about Jupiter Jane's Traveling Cafe and view the menu at the following link:

So, if you love horses and just enjoy watching them perform or if you would enjoy trying your luck at some classes, you should enjoy spending some time at the show.

Plus, the eats look great.

Spots of Fun Open Horse Show:  Saturday, July 13- Sunday, July 14 at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

Happy Tuesday.
