Momentous Memories

There come times when an experience leaves us overcome with such joyous emotions that it's just plain hard to calculate or convey its impact or magnitude in our lifetime journey.

Such was the case this weekend when five amazing young women from Illinois descended upon the Lovestead.

They spent all of 36 hours.

From the very beginning their presence enlivened our senses and touched our hearts in so many ways that it's difficult for me to describe.

Signe, Lizzy, Jenna, Taden and Kayla have found a secure place in our hearts which will reside there forever.

It was about family.

It was about young friends on a momentous lifetime road trip.

It was about sharing local culture.

It was about enjoying a lot of food.

It was about cramped sleeping quarters in a travel trailer.

It was about making experiences to remember.

It was about some firsts.

It was about thoughtful discussion.

It was about living and recording and documenting history, important to all.

It was about the most fun we could ever imagine having with strangers and family members.

Thank you, Ladies.

Safe travels.

Good luck with your new school year.

Come back to the Lovestead some day.

We loved every minute.

All have ancestors in the Short family, even though Willie's pretty tall.

Lizzie Short, riding Lily.

Lily loved the pampering.

Signe, granddaughter of Bill Short,  rode a horse for the first time in her life.

She rode Lily, named after Lily Short Halter, my grandmother.
