Hello, September!

Calendar-turning day, and I still have some to change around the house.

It's an amazingly beautiful day to start off September.

The calendar is loaded with enough stuff to keep the whole family out of mischief, or not!

Willie starts a new year of teaching Tuesday.

Wednesday Laurie sets off for a cross-country adventure with her horse Pache.  He's pictured below.

She and Pache will compete in several classes at the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals in Wilmington, OH.

So, she, my brother and Pache have some miles to cover before the show begins Sept. 8.

I'll keep readers informed when Laurie starts competing.

Today Annie started the second major stretch of her Camino after taking yesterday off for rest.

She states that her walking will be easier but may be a bit boring because she is crossing the Meseta

It's a plateau which covers a large part of the interior of Spain.

You can check out her 14th day on the Camino in the link below. She was planning to make up some time through the relatively easy stretch so her blog may go up a little later than usual.

In the next few weeks, Bill and I will be making final preparations for our trip, which involves meeting Annie in Santiago, Spain, after she completes her Camino.

One of those preps involves getting a Covid booster. We have found that doing so is easier said than done because vaccine has not been available, even the older version.

It's coming, we have learned.  I have also learned that calling chain pharmacies in nearby locations is next to impossible.

Talking to a live body is a rarity, but, by golly, yesterday I reached a tech at the Ponderay Wal-Mart pharmacy.

She told me that the vaccine hasn't come in yet, but when it does, we can walk in (between 10 a.m.--5 p.m.), fill out some paperwork and get our vaccinations.

We'll be ready to go the instant they're ready with the vaccine. Plus, we'll have a supply of masks when we actually do our flying.

In other news, we watched a little college football yesterday, and I kept track of scores for area teams.

This morning I learned that we have a Sandpoint connection with the WSU Cougars' big win over Portland State yesterday.

Trey Leckner scored a touchdown.  His grandfather Mike Leckner graduated in the Sandpoint High Class of 1974.

Bill and I learned that Trey, who graduated from high school in Western Washington, was playing for the Cougars while visiting with Mike at the recent Class of 1974 reunion.

The degrees of separation get a little closer because Trey's great-grandfather Jack worked with my dad Harold for the City of Sandpoint.

Of course, Brandon Casey (Sandpoint grad and Montana grizzly football captain) and his Montana teammates notched a victory in their match-up against Missouri State.

So, we Sandpoint folks have some fun times ahead keeping track of these kids as they move through their respective seasons.

Great wins for the local teams and a great effort by the Idaho Vandals in their close game against the powerhouse Oregon Ducks.

The old gang has been getting together lately.

Barbara, Monty and Laurie's friendship dates back at least 50 years (are my sisters that old?) from the Schweitzer Valley Dwellers 4-H days.

All were club members and horse fanatics who moved on through life, achieving great heights in the horse world.

It would be interesting to tally the national rankings they have achieved among the three of them.

Anyway, Monty has been coming up to Sandpoint to help Barbara with training her young horse Vinnie. Yesterday he also spent time observing Laurie practicing her dressage tests as she prepares for the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals.

Except for this short heat period, the weather has given many of my flowers a chance to revive themselves.

I love seeing them come back and give us a few extra splashes of summer color.

And, with that, it's off to enjoy the day.

Happy Sunday.
