We experienced a real snow storm yesterday, complete with swirling winds.
Almost a blizzard but not quite.
The new year's first Friday came as close to being like winter as we've seen all season long.
Yesterday's snow deposit will probably produce an abundance of winter postcard pictures today.
Twas enough to provide a thick layer of clean, white stuff to cover up all the ugliness of the dead time of year.
Still, happily, there was not enough snow to keep me from walking in the woods and the fields this morning.
So, we're getting some "just right" doses of weather thus far.
I was planning to remove the decorations from the deck Christmas tree, but that job had to wait until late afternoon when the wind finally stopped blowing.
The tree is bare now and ready to go to the woods.
It was neat to see it still loaded with color as the snowflakes came down throughout the morning and early afternoon hours.
Bill and I are both pleased with the first-ever Christmas tree to be harvested from our woods.
Meanwhile, back in Washington, D.C., our Selle neighbors, John and Lisa Ailport, had escaped the winter storm to participate in a very special family occasion.
John and Bill both work for Inland Forest Management, while Lisa serves as city administrator for Hayden, Idaho. As parents of two daughters, both are very involved in the local 4-H program.
The couple traveled to Washington to watch Lisa's sister Maxine Dexter sworn in as a United States Congressional Representative from Oregon, serving northwest Portland, Cedar Mill, Oak Hills and most of Bethany.
A practicing pulmonologist and critical care medicine specialist in Hillsboro, Ore., Dr. Dexter was elected to the U.S. Congress in November.
According to Wikipedia, she has "indicated that passing legislation to expand access to healthcare and to improve air quality are her leading priorities in Congress."
Congratulations and best of luck to Rep. Dexter. To Lisa and John, what a wonderful and inspiring moment for you and your family.
