Saturday Slight

Another sunny cold day with a new coat of snow.

That meant another afternoon outing with the dogs.  This time we headed for the drift yard on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille east of Hope.

Unfortunately, we missed out on the really prime picture taking because a collection of clouds arrived and blocked out some of the sunshine when we arrived.

Twas still mighty pretty, though, and except for a gentleman sitting and watching the bird action from his van, we once again had the place to ourselves.

When we go to the drift yard or to our later destinations, Sam Owen Campground and the Hope Peninsula, we are traveling through early Idaho history.

Mapmaker and fur trader David Thompson traveled through the area in 1809 and established the Kullyspell House, a fur trading post on the peninsula and believed to be the first structure built by white people in Idaho.

The drift yard, which is designed to catch driftwood from the Clark Fork River, also serves as a camping area.  It's also one of our favorite kayaking destinations.

So, we're very familiar with the spot, and we never tire of the beauty of the lake, river, mountains and waterfowl in and around the area.

Yesterday's visit to the wide-open area was highlighted by new snow, blue skies and sunshine when there were no clouds.

A trip through the Hope Peninsula reminds us of the astronomical amounts of money that must have been invested in prime and gorgeous real estate, including the home where a portion of the Berlin wall stands.

It's a spectacularly beautiful place, but, after every drive, I'm always happy to come home to our little farm and cozy house in the country.

Bridie is definitely a snow lover, so she enjoyed yesterday's time spent at the drift yard.

Sandpoint's Lady Bulldogs will move on in the regional play-offs, on their quest to compete in the State Tournament.

Twas a nail biter last night, but Coach Love's girls defeated Lewiston by 2 points in as the teams squared off at Les Rogers Gym for a loser-out game.

Sandpoint, now, 12-10, will take on Lakeland at home on Tuesday.

Read more about it below.

Willie's quote about the team to Mom via text:  Girls dug deep when they needed and pulled it out.

Happy we get at least another week together.

It's Gonzaga GAME DAY.

Bill is excited because he will be attending another Gonzaga women's game today at the Kennel.

Sitting next to him today will be his Inland Forest Management colleague and friend, Mike Wolcott.

Gonzaga women take on the Washington State Cougars today.

Mike is a Coug fan through and through.

So, the two longtime friends will sit next to each other but cheer for different teams.

May the best team win. It should be a great game.

Of course, we'll hope the best team will be the Lady ZAGS!

Meanwhile, Gonzaga's men travel to Stockton, Calif., where they'll  meet the Pacific Tigers.
