One-Flashlight Friday

A one-flashlight day, at last!

From early late November until today, it's been two-flashlight days here at the Lovestead.

I take the dogs outside for their morning relief around 4:45 every morning.  They wear their neon collars and I carry a flashlight.

Later, around 6:15, Bridie and I go for a walk.  The purpose of this walk, besides enjoyment, is to fill up the same time in the morning that I would normally be doing horse chores.

Horse chores will come back in early April with the horses, so I want an easy transition.  Therefore, if I'm out during chore time every morning, the change should be a piece of cake.

So, Bridie, who's been going out at chore time since she arrived here as a pup, accompanies me on the second phase of morning walks around the place.

This morning, with flashlight in hand, I opened the door to the outside world and saw that this morning, for the first time in 2025, no flashlight would be needed!

We walked wherever we wanted to go this morning with adequate vision.  I had no concerns whatsover about not seeing an obstacle and tripping over it.

We had plenty of much-welcome morning light.

Since most of our usual walking routes have been snowed in, I took Bridie back to the house sooner than usual and then headed to the road.

Again, a plus.

I can now walk down the road with traffic coming from either way, and drivers can see me.

So, I enjoyed a nice, brisk walk to the north and another segment to the south.

It might sound like no big deal to some readers, but having these new advantages for morning outings makes all the difference in the world to me.

And, the nice part:  it's going to get better every morning as we enjoy more and more light.

These will be one-flashlight days for a while because we'll be well into spring before the early morning walk is done in daylight.

For now, one-flashlight days will be A-okay.

Recent snow-cover has created some neat scenes around the area.

It was a squinty afternoon for me yesterday, even with my brand new pair Goodr polarized sunglasses.

And, the worst part:  it was gorgeous outside during the peak time of my eye-drop dilation.

While having my eyes checked yesterday morning, the technician told me that the drops would sting and their impact would affect my eyes for four hours.

She was right on both counts.

That temporary vision situation drove me a little crazy because, even through the squinting, I could see numerous outdoor picture possibilities in the brilliant sunshine and shadows.

Later, however, as the need to squint outside was lessening, I took the camera on a walk which included a short visit with our neighbors, Becky and Shawn, next door at the Meserve Preserve.

That visit also included some opportunities to take pictures of their magnificent old barn which, I believe, is more than 100 years old.

BTW:  the eye appointment went very well with a great report from the doctor.  I could have used a Staples "That was easy" button, it went so well.

The Gonzaga basketball games went well yesterday also.  Both the men's and the women's teams pulled off victories, although men made us wonder for a while during the game if this was gonna be loss No. 8.

Turned out that they got their act together at the end and defeated Loyola Marymount for their 17th victory.

It was also neat to read that senior Yvonne Ejim on the women's team broke a Gonzaga record as all-time women's scorer.

Congratulations to the teams and to Yvonne.

Tonight could be the last game for the Sandpoint High girls varsity basketball squad OR the first in a series of play-off games for State.

We are hoping for the latter as the Bulldogs once again take on the Lewiston Bengals in a loser-out game at Les Rogers Gym.

The game starts at 5:55 p.m., and you can watch it for free by clicking the following link.

Let's keep going, Bulldogs!
