Sometimes CB gets a little impatient when the other two horses have left the barnyard and gone to pasture.
This morning was one of those times.
This morning I also noticed that neighborhood peeps were anxious to get out and beat the heat.
I doubt that they did tantrums at the gate or at their house doors, but it was unusual to see my friend Joan out walking so early.
After saying good bye to her and turning around to come back to grab the paper, I heard the sound of bike tires.
A neighbor from the other end of our road was pedaling past.
We have heat coming, and we're not thrilled. Three days of possible 90s lie ahead.
Gardens and grass will grow, but peeps outside trying to keep plants watered and attend to other yard work will probably do a little withering by afternoon and early evening.
And, the worst thought: it's only early June. I hope that we do not have the extremes of a beastly hot, dry summer.
For now, the morning hours are pleasant and definitely the time to get physical work done.
Yesterday I took a day off from my garden and yard grind and went to Spokane with Debbie.
We attended the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon and watched Willie's first competitive gig as SHS men's head basketball coach.
June is the month of summer league, and Lewis and Clark High School was hosting a tournament.
The Bulldogs played two games yesterday and have at least one more today.
Debbie and I enjoyed watching the game and also getting to know the assistant coaches and some of the parents.
In one case, a grandparent reminded me that we had probably ridden our horses together years ago at the old fairgrounds.
She also graduated the same year that I did my student teaching at Sandpoint High School, although I did not have her for a student.
With this family, it was somewhat of an "old-home" week when we learned that their player's dad graduated from Sandpoint High with Willie. His grandfather Gary Weisz is one of my Facebook friends.
We also spent some time visiting with Bart Sanborn from Spokane.
He was tickled to learn that his three cousins Chase, Del and David (sons of Corky and Brigitte Sanborn) were in Bill's Boy Scout Troop. It was fun comparing notes and hearing their family stories.
As for the musical, we also enjoyed some visiting with Sandpoint folks who had driven in to Spokane to see the sold-out production.
I have to be honest and say that I don't really know what I thought of the play. The music and dancing and stage production were great, but I'm still thinking about the actual story.
The main aspect of yesterday was breaking the routine and doing something completely different. Debbie and I had a great day visiting with each other and with whomever we met along the way.
We topped off our adventure with a nice meal at Sweet Lou's in Athol and once home, it wasn't long before I was snoozing away the night.
It's a lovely morning out there today, with a nice breeze. So, I'm just like CB was earlier today.
Can't wait to leave this computer and get outside to enjoy the rest of the morning before the weather oven turns on.
Happy Sunday.
Debbie, Marianne, Mandy and Jen.
Mandy is the executive director of Better Together Animal Alliance while Jen is a fairly recent transplant from Seattle.
