It's January Ugly out there.
I think it's not supposed to last very long cuz if it does, there will be a bunch of ugly moods around here.
I heard the drops hitting the roof when I first got up this morning.
I kept putting off the thought of how awful it was gonna be to go to the barn.
Then, I remembered my Seattle Sombrero, which Annie gave me for Christmas.
My mood lifted.
"This is a Seattle Sombrero Day," I thought to myself.
So, I moved a little faster down the stairs from early morning computer time, excited that my Seattle Sombrero would get its true test.
Bundling up in snow pants to keep my jeans legs dry, barn boots, a fleece, and a rain coat, I then put the frosting on the old frosted head.
This calls for a picture, I thought.
So, to the upstairs bathroom I went; that's the one where the ceiling is painted as a blue sky with clouds.
Apparently, the previous residents of this house did everything possible to lift their moods during their January Ugly days.
Well, there beneath the blue skies and billowy white clouds, I snapped a few photos.
I love my sombrero cuz its sides go down for rain and up for when I want to look like a semi Aussie. That will be cool, I think.
Then, it was time to leave the blue skies up upper toilet room and brave the slippery slides to the barn.
Once there, I had to spend about five minutes urging the barn door to open, cuz the ground is heaving in this thaw, freeze, thaw, freeze mode we're in.
Annie Dog, who's been living in the barn because of incontinence (yes, both No. 1 and No. 2) slipped through the opening, as if she were in a hurry to do her business outside.
I avoided the dog logs strewn down the barn aisle and began taking hay to the barnyard.
It was a good morning with that Seattle Sombrero. I'm happy to have it and know it will get plenty of use right here in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Happy Friday all.

many years ago when the Aussie coat was the style, I had a coat and a hat... I gave the coat to someone who needed it (and I had grown too wide for it) and kept the hat. I, too, use it instead of an unbrella.. don't have to hold the hat.. while many made fun of me.. I still have the hat and it is still serviceable... usually have it in my car incase I get caught in a rain storm..
