I'm getting some pretty blatant hints: don't set any important goals today. Every so often, events of a day suggest that one's perceived accomplishments just may not come to fruition.
This is one of those days, where I can't seem to get off the ground with any projects---and it's not even 7 a.m..
First, the paper has not arrived.
First, the paper has not arrived.
So, I came upstairs to download some photos from yesterday for my blog. The cord hooking my little camera to the computer does nothing more than tie the two pieces of equipment together.
And, to make matters worse, it would not matter anyhow. I soon discovered that I had forgotten to put the memory card back in the camera the last time I used it.
The cord wasn't cooperating then, so I pulled the card out and stuck it in the laptop to download some photos.
Since there was no memory card in my camera, those photos I took yesterday of Bill's geocache search for his retirement gifts are but figments of his and my memories.
He liked the geocaching assignment, as did Janice from Western Pleasure who helped me set it up.
Janice set the coordinates and started him out in the driveway leading to their lodge. He found a little jar with a hint and coordinates for the next stop.
That stop presented a challenge, as Janice had suspected that it might. She has a new GPS and while setting out the hints, she noticed that her old GPS and her new GPS did not agree.
So, she came out to that second stop and give Bill a big hint, directing him to the right location. The next clue was behind the Forest Legacy sign on their property.
Bill had been helpful in the Wood family's efforts to have a portion of their land designated as Forest Legacy, so that was an appropriate place to put a clue.
Janice headed back to the lodge, and we were on our own. Bill easily found his presents in a bucket inside plastic bags hidden under some sticks next to a stump from the old days when Humbird Lumber Co. owned that land.
Bill has always been fascinated with all aspects of Humbird history in the area.
Of course, I took pictures all along the way as he searched for the cache and did wonder why my little camera started making noises that the disk was full after only ten or so photos.
This morning I've discovered the reason for the noises. Consequently, those images will remain in our minds, images of a fun morning out in the woods and additional fun with more geocaches to find in the Gold Creek area.
Yesterday's accomplishments will have to satisfy me if my getting off on the wrong foot is any indication of how today will unfold.
I can feel great satisfaction every time I walk through the kitchen and see all those new jars of applesauce on the counter. That was about two hours of apple peeling.
Most of my peeling time was spent, however, watching the Boise State-Nevada football game. The Broncos did not have their best game ever, but a 30-10 victory is another victory in their long string of wins.
We felt bad for Idaho, losing by just one point against Virginia. And, we were happy to see that WSU is still showing itself to be a much-improved football team.
I've been feeling sorry for their coach who's dealt with three tough years, mostly defeats. So, it's nice to see him have some good luck for a change.
I also enjoyed another good round with Lefty yesterday, driving him up and down the road in his harness. We were planning to work with him today, possibly with the cart, but some unforseen situations have arisen.
Plus, he needs another bit so that the "overcheck" straps don't have to be tucked into the headstall behind his ears. Otherwise, without the bit to hold them in place, the straps would be flapping in his face.
The bit should come this week, so I'll keep working him from the ground and possibly giving him some more saddle time.
In the meantime, I'll keep today's projects limited to the "fail safe" mode. Let's see. Peeling more apples could not involve too many obstacles. Pulling more stuff from the garden should be easy.
Reading the paper, once it comes, would be a good starter.
I've learned through many trials and tribulations that when counterproductive stuff starts stressing me out, it's time to walk away and do something else.
