When a bright, yellow beauty came slowly rolling onto South Center Valley Road from Selle Road last night, I almost needed sunglasses.
The day had been so dreary almost from start to finish, and
to see something that bright and shiny was almost shocking to my eyes yet a
welcome sight.
As the car approached with two familiar faces sitting
inside, I stood there gasping with awe.
What a piece of car art this was before my very eyes and on
a dirt road without a muddy speck to be seen!
The couple had just taken her Corvette out for a spin to
Paul Bunyan’s in Ponderay for a burger. I’m sure they turned heads all the way into
town and back.
We enjoyed a nice visit, including the fact that I'd be transferring their tomato plants from the greenhouse to their house in the next couple of days.
Chatting with these folks and admiring that car provided a nice touch for topping off a soggy
day.
And, this morning, the sun has
returned, erasing the gloominess of the past couple of days.
The calendar does not say it’s summer, but the birds and the
flowers and the growing grass are shouting out the announcement.
Yesterday most birds, 'cept the crows, were staying under cover, and virtually
all blooming flowers were sagging in despair.
Still, fresh raindrops added a sense of elegant, natural art.
I took a jaunt over to Sunnyside to see if the woodpeckers, I'd seen a couple of years ago, were still pecking away at the big trees on the road leading up the hill overlooking
the lake.
My hope was to catch some
close-ups of these big red-headed beauties with my new lens.
Not a woodpecker to be seen.
A brief stop at Hawkins Point reminded me of the pioneer family who has
lived in this area for so long----the same family who founded Litehouse, Inc. of salad-dressing fame.
Thirty-two years of the elements on the monument, celebrating
the family's Bonner County centennial has---in a pleasantly historical way---added a few age spots to
the inscription on the monument.
On my way back to Selle, I passed by a beautiful big barn that stands as
a monument to the many good memories experienced by the Burnett family of
Oden.
On last evening's walk, that Cedar Waxwing and its buddy were visiting the trees
surrounding the Murray property over on Selle Road.
The Murray's old corner fence,
which usually stands out in its rustic beauty during other seasons, was almost
hidden by lush, vibrant summer foliage.
Yup, summer has come, and we can now enjoy the beauty
enhanced by all that rain----and there’s work to go along with it. Good work, too!
Welcome, Summer.
Happy Thursday.
