To our west, smoke from a series of slash piles on the mountainside is billowing toward the sky.
We could see flames from the controlled burns throughout the night.
To our east, mountaintops are capped with the first snow of the season.
In between, down in the valley, flowers are still blooming, and grass is green----'cept for that which is covered with leaves.
We're definitely in that in-between time, and I'm enjoying the situation.
Yesterday, with its crisp dry air and blue skies with big puffy clouds, offered a pleasant change from a weekend of heavy rain.
The ground must have sucked it all up too because most of the little lakes in the barnyard formed by the rain are gone.
This break offers a great opportunity to finish the last of the must-do's before winter. I'm hoping to get my garden rototilled and the bulk of dead grass and weeds removed from the flower beds. That's a pretty ambitious plan, but I'll do my best.
I'll take some time out today to get together for coffee and dessert with Debbie. It's her birthday and a day when we remember and appreciate what a wonderful addition she has been to our family. I might add "for the community" also.
Smoke rising to the clouds from controlled fires on the mountain offered a unique and pretty scene as I walked across our hay field yesterday. |
Meserve's larch/tamarack are holding on to their needles and their beauty, even after the thorough weekend wash. |
Snow in them-there Cabinets could later transfer into gold in them there mountains----skiers' gold, that is. |
Happy Birthday to Debbie, and happy Tuesday to all.
