A nice November juxtaposition: vibrant pansies and happy jack-o-lanterns. We sure don't see this very often. |
I was thinking about Mondays from the old days of teaching yesterday. During that thinking time, I was holding a rake and sweeping up----yes----more leaves.
In those old days of teaching, that particular part of Sunday afternoon when I was doing my thinking, would be "stomach-tied-in-a-knot" time.
I would be fixated about the week ahead and especially concerned about how much sleep I would be getting during the night ahead and how difficult the Monday ahead would be if I didn't get enough sleep.
This was the drill for several years during the last part of my teaching career. The Sunday knot-in-the-stomach occurred pretty much over all those 33 years.
While raking up another batch of wet leaves, I thought about how nice it is to enjoy Sunday afternoons and actually sleep through most Sunday nights.
Instead of worrying about the week's worth of lesson plans and potential conflicts (those did happen occasionally and still do among the teaching lot), I worried more yesterday about our two RV's and where we were gonna stash them for the winter.
That concern did not last long because we tested a plan, and it worked. Our new-old motor home (which we could not sell) will fit underneath the lean-to next to the shop, especially now that several other smaller occupants of that area have been transported to storage areas on the place.
Late afternoon yesterday was mostly monopolized by preparing both the motor home and the travel trailer to go to Lake RV for winterizing.
Bill took the motor home and dropped it off in early evening. Leave it to the new-old motor home to have a tail light that decided not to work.
So, Bill had me take a two-way radio to match the one he had while slinking the back roads to the RV shop.
Turns out that old tail light decided to work after crossing the highway from main Selle Road to West Selle Road. It's obvious that RV has been around the block a few times and has stuffed a few tricks up its sleeve.
If anyone out there can tell us why a tail light works on some roads and not on others, we'd like to know, and we'll plan our routes accordingly.
This morning the travel trailer will go to the RV shop----straight down the highway, in fact.
I can announce that confidently, only after Bill tightened up the spare tire which we discovered was wobbling about a foot either direction when we first brought the trailer home.
Since we were both in the pickup during that first 50 miles from Post Falls, we had no idea how the spare was behaving behind us. We made the discovery, after Bill dropped me off where we had parked the car downtown.
As I drove home behind Bill watching the tire wobble like a metronome, it sure did explain why cars behind us on HWY 95 had been so anxious to pass us---even in no-passing zones.
We figured out that the spare wobbled a lot because the dealership where we bought the trailer hadn't intended to give us one, and, as some sales people are prone to do, we heard a variety of stories/lies that day on why a brand-new travel trailer would not come with a spare.
We didn't buy the stories, so we did eventually get the spare, and we're pretty darned lucky we didn't kill anyone, considering how they fastened it to the back of the trailer---or not!
Anyway, the Lovestead RV fleet will be winterized and have winter homes, so yesterday's Sunday afternoon worry has gone the same way as worrying about lesson plans.
In between working outside and avoiding a few rain showers, I enjoyed watching the weekend sports events, minus the Sounders soccer game where Annie's team continues to progress in the play-offs! Good going, Sounders.
And, Seahawks won in a nailbiter! Yay!
And, my friend Mow's Royals won the World Series royally! Yay!
And, the Green Bay Packers----oops!
And, on this Monday with a good night's sleep, I'm getting excited about another dimension being added to the weekend round-up.
ZAGS begin their season this weekend! Yay!
Happy Monday.
Whenever dogs are not squirrel watching, humans inside the Love home are! When dogs quit squirrel watching, this guy and his friends spend a lot of time at the bird feeder. |
