The Sharpe sisters came to town, so we got together yesterday for lunch in Hope at the Old Ice House Pizzeria.
Theresa lives in Kirkland, Wash., while Liz lives in Bakersfield, Calif. They were a year apart in school while growing up in Sandpoint, and one of those years back in the early 1980s, they each sat in my English class for a year.
Though their parents are now gone, Theresa and Liz get together every year and spend at least part of their visit in the Sandpoint area.
I feel blessed to have their friendship and especially blessed when we get together. They're a fun pair of sisters, to say the least.
We had our fun yesterday, yakking over pizza while enjoying the view from upstairs in the Old Ice House----one of the more magnificent views of Lake Pend Oreille, for sure.
Later, we enjoyed some silliness with selfies, thanks to the camera and tripod and the fact that downtown Hope offers the freedom of moseying around in the middle of the old highway.
So, we took advantage, moving from spot to spot for the photo shoots.
We were told by the nice caretaker that the Hope Hotel (which is for sale) is private property, but he allowed us to go ahead and get our photos.
Of course, that brief moment of three ladies trespassing in downtown Hope added to the fun.
No doubt we'll get together again next year and create some more good memories.
Speaking of memories, Theresa brought along a clipping from the local paper, which I may have had but probably burned in our 1984 house fire.
Indeed, it was a precious gift, bringing back a precious moment in our lives when little Willie got all spruced up and, along with Mindy Hunt, helped out with the Homecoming halftime ceremony.
That year, Jill Greenwood was named queen. Lots of good memories in all the faces who gathered at Barlow Field in that photo.
In the Throwback Thursday category, there's a reason I posted that relatively recent photo of my brother Kevin and the baby palomino (now named Newly and now living at Kevin's farm in Frenchtown).
Kevin is celebrating a birthday today. So, Happy Birthday to him.
With Easter coming this Sunday, I had no problem posting an Easter photo from a few years back. Must have been that we had dinner at the Lovestead and went out to enjoy the hay field afterward.
I believe Mother was still alive but she stayed back at the house while we took the dogs out to play.
Finally, today is Opening Day for the Seattle Mariners. Felix, the King, will be on the mound, and I'm thinking the famed Ichiro from Mariners past will be back in Seattle and on the mound.
We were fortunate a few years back to sit in a pretty good area for seeing the players close up, and that was when Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr. was still with the Mariners.
Again, great memories as we prepare to follow another season of Mariner baseball and hope for the best.
Go, Felix. Welcome back, Ichiro, and Happy Thursday.
