Amber Waves of Grain, Blue Skies and Squirrels

I picked up a couple of sacks of whole oats yesterday.

Since it's right in the neighborhood, I love to buy my oats for Mr. CB at Wood's Hay & Grain.

There's always a good visit involved with whoever happens to be at the counter.  And, yesterday's drive up Ben and Dana's driveway added an extra dimension of drop-dead beauty to the trip.

Their grain fields are downright gorgeous right now, and the first bright blue sky with billowy clouds any of us have seen in the past three weeks made this errand all something special.

Twas breath-taking, to say the least, and it was breath-taking everywhere as mountains we hadn't been able to see in weeks reappeared.

Ya know it's really nice to be back using "breath-taking" and "drop-dead beautiful" in my vocabulary.

We say that a lot here in North Idaho, and sometimes, like when ugly smoke permeates the skies for almost three weeks, we realize how much we take our natural beauty for granted.

Well, happily it's back, at least for a while.

Tom Sherry, the KREM-TV weatherman, says we may be seeing more smoky skies in the next few days as the area dries out from Sunday-Monday's welcome rainfall.

Let's just hope that rainfall helped enough to keep any additional fires from starting.

In the meantime, busYness has come on strong this week. In one case, I'm taking a group picture tomorrow of some subjects for a magazine article. So, yesterday I went to the place where the photos will be taken to scope out possibilities.

While strolling around, two town squirrels put on quite a squirrely show for me, racing each other to a big tree, scaling it and then chasing each other around the trunk.

It was a fun interlude, just as all unexpected moments of the natural world like that happen to be.

This morning's first walk with Lily to pasture offered a similar treat.

Mama deer and her fawn along with all the resident turkeys who sleep in our woods must have awakened at the same time.  Both turkeys and deer were gathered in the hay field near the gate into the woods.  While turkeys trotted, baby fawn darted around them.

A lovely sight to start the morning.

Anywho, busy days ahead, so I'm gonna get started the rest of my morning chores.

Happy Tuesday.
