Today is kind of a bittersweet birthday for Bill.
We were thinking and hoping that he could see the doctor this week and get the green light to start walking again.
Jury duty awaits throughout April, so he thought sure the doc would say yes.
Turns out the doctor is not available during this Spring Break week.
Plus, they also asked if he could push back his scheduled appointment next week by another day.
So, twas a bit of a setback yesterday to know he has to keep on waiting.
I'm sure, however, that when it does come, that "go-ahead-and-start-walking" is gonna be the best birthday present ever.
He'll be trading that big black, strap-on boot for waders and hiking boots so he can get back to fishing, geocaching, hiking and just plain enjoying the ease of walking without all the extras.
In the meantime, it's the little things that will help time pass.
Yesterday I fired up the 4-wheeler for the first time. Bill climbed aboard, and we drove down the road, stopping at the mailbox on the way back. We even took a spin down the lane and back.
Today we'll enjoy a birthday lunch in a pretty spot.
As the week moves on, we'll do our best to figure out more perks to help the time pass.
So, Happy Birthday, Bill and Happy Birthday to Bill's sister Margaret.
As the birthday beat goes on, so does the spring clean-up of animals and grounds.
Yesterday provided a perfect day for painting some fence along the lane and for removing huge amounts of gray hair from Lily.
Of course, within an hour of returning to the barnyard, she rolled in the mud again----but with a lot less hair.
More snow melt in the yard has led to more raking. Slowly but surely, we're making visible progress in the transition from late-winter ugly to early spring vibrancy.
In the midst of it all, melodious and sometimes cacophonous noises from treetops and bushes and the skies and wherever a big and little birds can light.
Those are busy sounds, indicating the birds are just as busy as the people, getting things all set for the spring and summer months ahead.
Happy Tuesday.
