We played "turist" in the hometown for Bill's birthday yesterday.
I actually think the day turned out to be a birthday he will definitely remember, thanks to Mother Nature and some good eats and friend sightings.
That knee roller saw plenty of action, in fact, a lot more than usual.
Bill's first excellent adventure involved a trip to the dog run and later to the shop.
He moves pretty slowly cuz the roller has to go over fairly rough terrain, but he seemed to enjoy his morning excursion in the lovely springtime sunshine.
Later, we met Willie and Debbie at Cafe Trinity, which offers one of the more spectacular scenes and some phenomenal lunch items: shrimp and grits for Bill, waffle chicken sandwich for Willie and the popular pecan-crusted chicken salad for Debbie and me.
Our server, Usula, whom we first met when she and Annie worked together at Jalapenos, asked if anyone had a birthday.
She said Willie would count since his was the day before, so we enjoyed two desserts, compliments of the house.
We also saw Skip and Nancy Pucci. Skip was the first Sandpoint local Bill ever met when he came from Louisiana to the 1973 Boy Scout Jamboree at Farragut.
As a local Boy Scout leader, Skip volunteered for the staff and drove Bill from Spokane Airport to the Jamboree.
So, it was fun visiting and, of course, fun for the two to commiserate about their therapeutic boots and their rehab experiences.
Skip has a broken leg and wears a boot after being run over by a snow plow truck.
The injury has slowed this guy who's built so many beautiful area structures, but it certainly hasn't stopped him from getting out and about.
So, dear friend Helen, you're hardly alone in "boot" camp.
After we loaded up from lunch, I took a right turn to the docks and jetty just east of Trinity.
Folks were definitely out and about enjoying the phenomenal spring weather. We even figured that all those who left town for Spring Break paradise stops might even be a little jealous of the beauty back home.
Once the knee roller came out of the pickup bed again, the real action began. That smooth service on a lovely, warm day had to be Heaven for Bill, who took full advantage of the situation.
We saw folks dabbling their feet in the water, playing in the sand and fishing off the rocks. We met bicyclers and other walkers.
Twas obvious everyone was thoroughly enjoying their endorphins.
All in all, considering the situation, I think Bill's birthday bash turned out much better than he ever expected.
Lovely weather will leave today in exchange for the usual rain we associate with Spring Break in Sandpoint.
Happily, we have enjoyed some nice outdoor experiences in our own special God's Country to tide us over until the sun shines again.
Happy Wednesday.
