Civic Heroism and GAME Day

Back in early September, after hearing about a multi-car wreck at the intersection of HWY 95 and Selle Road where she turns off to go to her home, Mickey Jacobson thought about the incident for a while and then made a call or two.

One call---which included a little persistence---to the Idaho Dept. of Transportation, followed by a few others, soon led to one dramatic safety improvement.

AND, another safety measure along the roadway is in the works.

Thanks to Mickey's efforts and with support from Selle Road resident and IDT staff member GiAnne Househalter Williams and the work of IDT crews, the much-used intersection  now has a street light.

Some additional nudging led to the promise of a yellow intersection sign alerting highway drivers to the Selle Road. In the past, the intersection has been difficult for drivers to see at night.

The intersection sign will be installed when weather permits, according to Williams.

Mickey told us yesterday at Selle Club about making those calls after feeling badly and praying for a solution. She's thrilled that her prayers have been answered.

Thanks to her, who knows how many lives will be saved, and, in our case, time saved.  Many times at night both Bill and I have almost missed or have completely missed the turn-off.

The street light has made an amazing difference.

Mickey's efforts exemplify a positive and effective strategy, which all too often gets forgotten in favor of endless complaining or just dealing with whatever the situation happens to be.

So, thank you, Mickey, your efforts and for your good example of citizenship and caring for the welfare of others.

The Selle Club, which I rejoined this year, cares about the welfare of Selle residents as well as others around the county.

Yesterday we heard about the Christmas fund would help others this year.  Throughout the year, each meeting, cash donated by members goes in a jar, and in December, the year's donations turn into items to help out people in need.

This year's fund was used to purchase toys and sundries for a shelter in Priest River.

Good stuff happening, thanks to the generosity of good folks, of which there are so many throughout this country called America.

It's always fun to accentuate the positive, and while on that subject this morning:  good news this morning for our son Willie and his SHS girls varsity basketball team.

They've won four of their past five games and notched another victory last night in St. Maries.

Congratulations, Willie and Lady Bulldogs.

Happy Wednesday.

How could I forget.  There's a BIG game tonight in Spokane at the Kennel in McArthey Athletic Center.

I read the other day that if someone was the richest person in the world, they could not buy a ticket to tonight's contest between the ZAGS and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

ALL tickets were sold out long ago.

Fun to have the excitement of a national contest, especially since our ZAGS are ranked No. 2 in the nation.

Let's hope they can pull off another great win against a team, which was their nemesis when they fought for the national championship a few years ago.

GO, ZAGS!!!!!!
