I met Ginger at a Lady ZAGS game a few months ago. She and her husband Dick have season tickets, and their seats are next to Bill's.
During our brief conversation, Ginger and I learned that we have a LOT in common.
This morning after seeing a post on her Facebook page, I decided we had one more item in common: we sure could us a little good news today.
Yes, Ginger, the headlines included in Anne Murray's Number 1 hit of 1983 may differ from what we're reading this morning, but some good news would be so therapeutic for a lot of souls around our world.
We certainly have reached a point of unknown futures on this planet called Earth.
It's a time of countless TOUGH and draconian decisions being made across the globe. Some decisions are specific to individuals, families, small groups, etc., while others affect millions.
And, the news works about the same. We all have our own little news bites from yesterday, last night and today.
And, we also, unless we have our heads buried in the sand, will deal in our own ways with big bold headlines, telling us of restricted travel, no NBA, our beloved March Madness adding yet another touch of madness---no crowds to cheer on the teams.
And, some, like the lady I heard in a convenience store yesterday, insist that: it's all a hoax. Wonder where they got that idea?
Silly me.
Yes, we are, after all, in the time of "fake news." So, for some, whatever satisfies their palate----that will serve as their news.
As a journalist, I tend to believe respected journalists who've been passing along the truth for a lot longer than they've been faking it.
Honestly, I do believe that longtime journalists still like to tell the truth when they report the news, and I believe they'll do their darndest digging hard to find the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
And, so, this morning I think we are all called upon to react accordingly to the bad news that's "in our faces" today.
This seems like a time to dig deep within our hearts and do our best to call upon our better angels to guide us in the way we treat each other and in what is most prudent in the face of the virus and its unknown impacts upon us, our family, our friends and others of the human race who come within our midst.
Our world is changing dramatically and quickly.
There's not a heckuva lot we can do about it, except to do our best each day by respecting the fact that this coronavirus situation is not gonna go away.
Still, we can certainly make an extra effort to do our small part to see that it doesn't spiral out of control.
On a lighter note, it's looking like time for jigsaw puzzles, binge TV, or maybe even getting outdoors away from germs and trying geocaching. Last item mentioned in honor of Annie. www.geocaching.com
Below, is a link sent to me by our Cindy Wooden, describing a day in Rome----day before yesterday. It's a poignant and enlightening read about a busy worldwide icon basically shutting down.
I encourage you to read it. In many places around the world, we may be witnessing similar scenes in the next week or two.
Also, because she's my cousin and I love her, I've posted a YouTube appeal from Patti Skelton-McGougan, executive director of Youth Eastside Services in the Seattle area.
Times like these----every little gesture helps.
Though the news is mostly bad, that sun out there is threatening to shine, and the birds will be singing their hearts out today.
Happy Thursday.
Hope you have a little good news today.

Thank you so much for sharing your "mutterings." I love this song! I used to sing it while riding bareback to 4-H with your sisters as they did their best to teach me to sit in a saddle and hold leather reins (versus the bailing twine version I was so used to). Anyway, yes we sure could use a little good news today! I am also thankful for the journalist that show up and share the news from around the world and in our communities with us.
