A commercial to lure new, "dedicated" members into an extreme frisbee club at Sandpoint High School, a 21st birthday, a fun photo op for three friends and their cars and a visit with Lady Liberty.
Twas a "happening" day when I decided to head to City Beach yesterday afternoon. Once again, the experience served as a pleasand step in my gradual re-entry to the outside world.
Not that I don't spend a lot of time outside. This and my walk with Chris and Judy the other day provided happy reminders that interaction with other people outside the home bubble is good for the soul.
In yesterday's case, I was not really searching for people; I just happened on to each trio after parking the Subaru and taking off on a walk.
While pulling up to my parking spot, I had seen some girls exit a car with shiny silver balloons and wondered if a party might be happening down on the beach.
Turns out this was the after party, as the group from Spokane had just enjoyed lunch at Jalapenos, and the beach was providing a nice photo op for some carefree moments to top off the 21st birthday celebration.
"Birthday girl," I found, was a charming young lady who's attending Spokane Falls Community College, majoring in a American Sign Language.
Good for her!
As I walked on, the shoreline, much further out than usual because of lake drawdown, lured me.
So, I walked to water's edge where interesting ice formations have created occasional boundaries separating the shore from the cold, cold water of Lake Pend Oreille.
Later, upon seeing the Lady Liberty statue, a local variation of the original honoring the memory of Leigh Turner, I decided a walk to see her up close and personal was in order.
With the water drawdown, I must say that narrow walkway actually aroused my fear of heights a bit----nothing to grab on to and the sand surface below looking like the possibility for a good splat get too close to the edge and fall. So, my pace picked up on the way back to the shore.
Moving on, I approached three young men, definitely engaged in a creative project, involving another camera.
Turns out they're seniors as Sandpoint High School and that I taught both parents of two of the three. The third happens to live on the Center Valley Road complex----North Center Valley, to be exact. I met him a few years ago, but he has grown a bit since then and has distinguished himself as a swimmer for SHS.
They also know Willie aka Mr. Love from school and told me they had even visited with him earlier in the day about placing an ad about their frisbee club on the school announcements.
Nice, nice young men!
Parents, you've done well.
Finally, I met another trio of SHS seniors. These young women had set up a camera and tripod for some fun photos.
I asked if I could take a picture of their camera taking a picture, and, by golly, they said yes.
It was, indeed, a light-hearted, creative and uplifting day at City Beach Jan. 26, 2001.
Nice to see happy people out having a good time and creating some fun memories.
Even nicer to visit with them and take some pictures in another Sandpoint enjoyment staple.
Happy Tuesday.
