Mad and Glad

And, so it begins.

After last year's Pandemic hiatus, March Madness has come back.

We actually watched the NCAA men's tournament's very beginnings yesterday afternoon as Texas Southern and Mt. St. Mary's tipped off in Indianapolis.

Texas Southern, which we have seen play Gonzaga in past years, pulled off the win and will continue on in the tournament.

It's truly a crazy thing to get crazy about March Madness aka The Big Dance, but after what may have been the craziest year of our lives, the March Madness addiction seems tame, safe and upbeat---but definitely unpredictable.

And, that's what makes it all so mesmerizing.

It's fun just leaving the TV on, going about the usual business of the day but checking in from time to time to see how chosen teams are doing.

I have completed eight brackets, many of them very similar, for three different pools---Friday Night Diners, SHS staff and as an individual hoping for the perfect bracket.  The latter is a pipe dream but why not?

Bracketology does add a nice and dramatic dimension to March Madness, especially if our respective brackets are not doomed by the end of the first day.

That has happened to me a time or two.

I found this year's selections a bit difficult, but I will state right now that my loyalty to Gonzaga reigns supreme.

Some tough teams are out there, especially Illinois and Baylor, but I want Gonzaga to realize the dream that has been years and years in the making.

So, not once in eight brackets did I declare anyone but the ZAGS as National Champion.

Time will tell, as will a certain amount of luck (Covid always lurks) and a whole lot of God-given skill and coaching.

Yesterday, the common theme on a ZAGS video feature indicated that the players all focus on setting higher standards for themselves each time out along with always remembering to keep up with the standard of all who came before them.

Seems like a pretty sound strategy.

And, so, admittedly, my mind is consumed with the Madness, and our TV will probably do a marathon run today.

Tomorrow evening we'll gather with family to watch the ZAGS' first appearance in the tournament.

We're all hoping that when March Madness fades and April anticipation begins, we are still sitting in front of television sets, munching and yelling "YES," "GO, ZAGS!"

Happy Friday and bring it on, March Madness!

Couch potatoes will be DANCING and hoping to be celebrating THE LAST DANCE!
