Boston Visit, Et. OWL.

I went to Boston's home yesterday to take some pictures for her Mustang Challenge.

Besides following her out to the field and taking photos while she led Legacy,  I got acquainted with another of her projects:  bottle babies.

The animal world truly has a passionate friend in Boston.

She rescues.

She feeds.

She trains.

She loves.

Critters couldn't ask for anything better.

I have met several recipients of this coming 16-year-old's outreach, and they all seem very happy.

It seems pretty obvious these days that caring for animals will be a part of Boston's future.

It will be exciting to see where her passion leads her. For now, we are the lucky neighbors who get to watch.

In other animal news, I opened the sliding glass door last night to take a picture of the ominous sky and heard the screech owl.

This time the bird's distinct sound seemed to be coming from the big cottonwoods over in the Meserve Preserve.

So, with camera in hand, I walked that direction.

Sure enough, the owl was voicing its thoughts from a limb on one of the cottonwoods.

It didn't seem to mind one bit that I was approaching from nearby.

With darkness about to come on, both from the storm that didn't materialize and according to the clock, I snapped pictures, thinking they wouldn't be that great.

Still, I had finally seen the bird without the view being obstructed by limbs.  This has been a goal, not only with this owl but also with the bard owls that hung around the same area this past winter and early spring.

This morning when I went out to feed, the owl was once again in the cottonwoods, just perched with its back to me on another limb.

I hope it stays because now I've raised the bar on owl goals.  Next time I'll go over to Meserve's and walk out into the field where I can get closer shots.

Who knows?  Maybe with all this picture taking, this owl and I will become friends.

And, so, that's life among the animals, except for reports from Mary that CB has made friends with Jeffery, the mini mule in the pen next to him.

Mary says the two put on quite a show called  "play bossy. . . both act tuff, then stand there wondering what to do next."

Seems like a good activity for pictures when I go to visit.

Animals of all species and sizes certainly do add many wonderful and fun dimensions to life.

Happy Friday.

No more dust for a while.

Our road received a dose of dust abatement yesterday.

It may be more pleasant mowing the lawn from now on.
