Mother's Day with Sisters

With kids off in Boise and Bend, Bill and I took off on a scouting mission yesterday.

My sisters, Barbara and Laurie, joined us. And, we ALL rode in one rig!

No big deal usually, but after a year of adventures with everyone from different households taking their own cars or trucks, the togetherness in the pickup was a treat in itself.

Lots of visiting, to the point of throats threatening to get raspy after relative inactivity in the continuous conversation department.

We, of course, took along goodies for a picnic.

Our goal was to check out the Boundary Dam facility and area for a possible future kayaking trip.

We'd heard about the beauty of the place and how neat it is to kayak near the Peewee Falls.

Because we did not know ALL the details about the place, we didn't learn until we were about to leave that the falls were down a trail just around the corner from where we were picnicking.

Bill said that was okay, cuz when we do go back with kayaks, we'll get the experience of seeing the falls for the first time.

The facility is impressive and beautifully laid-out to say the least. Nice bathrooms, great area to launch kayaks, beautiful picnic spots and some well-planned tent sights, along with areas for trailers.

There's potable water but no electricity, so trailers are limited to dry camping.

I heard lots of plotting about a future adventure as we were about to leave.

On our way, we stopped a couple of times in Ione at the park along the Pend Oreille River and in the charming little town of Metaline Falls, which served as a movie setting nearly 25 years ago.

I don't know what was more enjoyable---the unlimited access to conversation, the scenery, the casual stroll around Metaline Falls or the ice cream cones on the way home.

It was ALL good and a fun, relaxing way to spend Mothers' Day.

Happy Monday, and a special Happy Birthday today to my longest friend, Laura Delamarter.

Though neither of us probably remember, there are pictures to prove that we've known each other since age 1.  And, for both of us, that's turned into a LONG time.

We've enjoyed our friendship in many ways over the  years.

Happy Birthday, Laura.
