Our place is bloomin' pretty these days. The service berry bushes have suddenly lit up, and the apple trees are opening their annual show of blossoms. |
Promise of good spring eats ahead, fresh from the ground. |
Last a la carte breakfast for CB at the Lovestead for a while.
He's been to pre-school and kindergarten and a little elementary school.
Now, it's time for CB to go to in-person, full-fledged training under saddle.
We'll be loading him and Lefty into the trailer later today and hauling CB out to his temporary home at Mary's.
Lefty is sorta like those horses you see at the races walking along side the Thoroughbreds.
It's the "keep calm" factor, and that's what Lefty usually does. He's ridden several times with newbies in the trailer, and he helps keep them pretty calm.
So, once CB is tucked in, we'll bring Lefty back home, and Lily will be SO happy. They don't like it when their friends leave, but Lily's been there done that before, so she'll be fine as the solo here at the place for a few hours.
I'm gonna miss CB. He's an entertainer and a very social horse. I think Mary will find that out soon.
We enjoyed a nice afternoon with family yesterday for the Derby AND with Kevin Patrick 2.
Kevin Patrick 2 West dubbed himself as such after meeting Kevin Patrick 1 Brown (my brother) in a face time session during the Derby doings.
Kevin Patrick 2 took the time to walk around Churchill Downs and show us the sights as time wound down toward the big race.
He showed us some of the crazy get-ups people were wearing to the Derby, including a man with an Abraham Lincoln-style top hat with a race horse on top of the top hat.
He told us about how the food was all free to simplify potential problems with Covid. Of course, he added that the price of admission covered that.
Kevin also reported his first celebrity sighting: Sandra Bullock. We all approved.
We really appreciated the five minutes of on-scene sights he shared with us.
Thanks so much, Kevin Patrick 2.
You were so gracious and generous to add a little Derby spice and a neat new memory to our gathering.
And, thanks for the actual Derby photos below.
None of us picked the winner; in fact, very few even picked second and third place.
No loss since we had so much fun gabbing, eating and watching the great stories leading up to the race.
This has been a beyond busy weekend, but soon I'll be turning the page to full steam ahead on planting the garden and keeping up on the lawn.
Fun times ahead. I love it all.
Happy Sunday.
Kevin Patrick 2 and his lovely wife Jennifer at the Derby. |
