Today and tomorrow promise a brief but minimal break from the stifling heat.
The 80s.
Gotta enjoy it cuz there's ten more days of high temperatures with no rain coming and, more than likely, many smoky days ahead.
For about an hour last night we actually enjoyed the comfort of actually doing something active outside.
I picked blueberries for about 45 minutes while dogs watched.
Liam would like to help me pick the blueberries, but even a brilliant Border Collie can't figure out how to put the berries in the bowl, so he just swallows them.
Bill came home from town while I was picking berries.
He washed his pickup. Then, drove across town, took a photo and sent me a copy.
Twas my completed birthday present: a new and beautiful greenhouse with shelves, a floor and pretty wood.
Though my husband doesn't do gardening, he keeps close track of my efforts, mostly when the garden begins to produce goodies for the dinner plate.
He especially loves to see progress in the potato patch cuz he likes his "depression potatoes."
Last night we had the first of those for dinner, along with a homegrown garden salad. Talk about tasty.
This morning I'll go out and sow some more lettuce seed cuz the first crop is now pretty much spent.
With the new greenhouse coming early next week, I'll also spend time emptying the contents of old one.
That includes a bee assault which started this morning.
Once I had moved the last of my plant starts to the garden, the bees took over, establishing some pretty intimidating nests throughout the little structure.
This morning's first round of bee spray shut down much of the activity inside, but I'm thinking another round will be needed before I have the courage to step inside.
Hopefully, by the time the weekend is completed, the spot will be ready for new and better green housing and many years of planting seeds for summer gardens.
Good times ahead in the gardening department and a much welcome cool down from the blistering heat.
Happy Friday.
A fun, well-written and inspiring read about believing and persevering . . . .
