Spots of Fun This Weekend

This week Kenny and Moreen Leen celebrated 60 years of marriage.

This weekend Kenny and Moreen will be doing what they've done every second weekend in July for many of those 60 years.  They'll be putting on a horse show.

Moreen will be running the organizational part of the show (she's the boss) while Kenny will be focusing on various aspects of ground maintenance, always cracking his usual jokes.

Other family members will probably be helping too, as they have done for numerous years.

Saturday's classes feature halter and English-oriented riding, while Sunday's classes are Western.

The Leen family has been the driving force for continued success of the Spots of Fun Open Horse show, held every year at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, and they'll be working hard to see that the 2021 version meets the usual standards.

Spots of "Fun" has always been fun for exhibitors and their families and friends.

This year four of our family members will be participating on horseback:  Barbara, Laurie, Annie and Marianne.

Annie has a gap of about 25 years since she last rode in a horse show.

So, she took some time last night over at my sisters' to pick up some pointers about equitation and how to get Lily to perform at her best.

Thanks to the knowledge and teaching talents of my sisters and her own natural talent, within minutes, Annie's practices were moving dramatically toward perfect.

Also, thanks to my sisters, both Annie and I have some of the proper attire for riding in our classes on Sunday.

Hats, spurs and chaps are not always a part of the usual person's wardrobe, unless they're engaged in horse activities as my sisters are.

So, it was nice to be able to borrow from their extensive inventory of Western attire.

We're all looking forward to the show where we'll see horses and faces of longtime friends and all do our best to try to win a ribbon or two.

As mentioned before, this year's show has some added excitement for me as the cute little bay with the four white stockings named CB has grown up and is ready to make his first-ever appearances in an actual show.

Thanks to the continued and appreciated efforts of Team Leen, a  weekend of fun lies ahead, along with the beginnings of picking and grinning, as a bunch of my raspberries turned red yesterday.

As usual, before the fun comes ample work, so I'd better get at it.

Happy Friday.
