"While it might seem self-evident, the definition of a white Christmas is contentious – so measuring how often it’s happened is surprisingly complicated.
The criteria that the UK’s Met Office uses to define a White Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December somewhere in the UK."

The story in the link above talks about why British author Charles Dickens portrayed Christmas in the 1800s as "white" in his classic story "Christmas Carol."
The other day, while cleaning barns, I listened to the deejays talk about the movie "It's a Wonderful Life."
During their discussion, one mentioned that snowflakes for the story, which was filmed in Southern California in the summer of 1946, were actually cornflakes painted white. Ivory soap flakes, chipped ice and the stuff inside a fire extinguisher were also used.
Asbestos fibers have also been used for movie sets.
Well, it's looking like this winter, no fake snow will be needed anywhere in this area.

Meanwhile, here in North Idaho, no scientific definitions are needed to determine if our Christmas will be white.
Just how white is it gonna be?
That's the question.
The photos below were taken yesterday and those above, this morning.
Overnight at least four-five more inches fell, and it's still coming down as I write.
Bill was out early with the snowblower, so that I can get out there to do the morning chores.
And, he opened the barn door.
So, chores were not quite the "chore" they've been a couple of times recently.
I am grateful.
Today we'll watch it snow, do some plowing and shoveling and more blowing, and then we'll listen to it rain tonight, followed by more snow.
I have a feeling the exquisite beauty of these early morning hours may dissipate a bit, but it's looking pretty certain that we'll have a white Christmas.
And, as Dickens mentioned so long ago, it will be the best of times and the worst of times.
All perspective.
Happy Wednesday.
Stay safe.
