It's been a long time since I even thought about TGIF.
After all, when you've spent nearly two decades with "every day is a Saturday," why be relieved to see Friday?
Well, Friday still has a few special elements, separating if from the other six days of the week.
Friday-night dinners with family, some of whom still work, kinda tops the list.
And, this particular Friday means Christmas vacation starts and that the holiday season will go into full gear.
And, when that happens this particular year, nobody around here will be yearning for a white Christmas.
That became pretty much a certainty yesterday when a couple of flakes falling from the sky soon turned into millions coming nonstop.
Twas a bit shocking since the previous day's weather report had not prepared us for an all-day snowstorm where, by noon, I brought out the tractor and plow and moved about four inches of flaky snow from the driveway and lane.
The result along with single-digit temperatures this morning is breath-taking with mountains covered with snow and lavender, sometimes pink sky above Schweitzer.
Add some snowflakes (which eventually quit falling last night), and there's exquisite snow-globe beauty out there.
Bill and I both encountered problems with the extreme cold when snaps on Bridie's leash and the gate to the pasture froze.
I stood for a few minutes massaging the gate snap with my gloves until it finally opened.
Bridie's leash snap froze both times she went out this morning, and on the way in, her little pads got so cold she just collapsed on the ground and looked at me as if to say, "I'm not taking one more step."
Once in the house, though, Bridie's pads thawed and her feet went to work racing around the house and launching on to the love seat where I was reading the paper.
Her adrenalin was such that she also jumped up on my side, and, by golly, one of those claws caught the side of my face.
First time in three weeks that I've sustained puppy injuries. The scratch is about an inch long, and, yes, it bled for a while.
Thank God for those masks cuz I think the scratch will be covered when I go to town later for my hair appointment.
After getting scratched a few times, Bill had resorted to big, heavy gloves, always handy on the end table for Bridie's enthusiastic couch visits.
Anyway, I'm enjoying the fact that it's Friday, especially with the promise of an absolutely beautiful day ahead and with holiday fun stuff gearing up for the next week.
Happy Friday.
And, Happy 80th, Skip Newton. Enjoy that Mr. Sub.
Something to think about . . . let's try to be safe.
"In South Africa, Omicron spread twice as fast as the highly infectious Delta variant.
In Britain, officials have estimated that 200,000 people are becoming infected with Omicron every day.
In Denmark, Omicron cases are doubling roughly every two days."
