Fun and Play on a Snowy Day

Poor Liam.

He hurts this morning.

He's pretty gimpy and favoring his left hind leg.

Liam puts in thousands of miles every day racing around the barnyard fence to patrol the horses' every move.

Yesterday was no exception, but I'm guessing that Liam's pain may have come from a lightning-speed fall on the killer ice underneath a new coating of snow.

So, I gave him a pill and hope that it's a minor injury which needs only a few days to heal.

I know there was killer ice underneath that new snow cuz I fell on it yesterday afternoon while taking Bridie over to my sisters' to play in their arena.

Fortunately, my pain is no worse than the usual achy joints this morning.  No bumps. No bruises, just total frustration thinking about the Yak trax being useless on yesterday's hidden ice.

The snow was wet, so it balled up under the boots, covering over the spikes on the Yak Trax.

And, when ya don't know where the ice fields are, that means big trouble.

My sisters had just arrived at their barn from their house and helped by holding Bridie and talking me through where the "grip" spots were.

I even rolled over on the ice a couple of times to get to a grip. I would never have gotten up otherwise. The ice was that dangerous, and it was on an incline.

Once that situation was resolved, we headed to the barn door where an array of welcoming cats greeted and scared little Bridie.

It took a while to maneuver through the menagerie, but we made it to the indoor arena with new feline friend Emmett coming along with us.

This opportunity couldn't have come soon enough for Bridie.  She's been about to crawl the walls and has gotten into way more things than a puppy should be able to do.

To say that she was suffering from cabin and crate fever would be an understatement.

To watch her play with Emmett and race through the arena sand with Laurie brought sheer joy to me.  I can't even imagine how great the experience felt to Bridie.

She was tired when she came home---not totally well behaved but much better than the days preceding yesterday's outing.

I'll probably take her again today.  The ice, thanks to rain, shouldn't be nearly as slippery, and the welcoming cats not as intimidating.

A good time was had by all in the arena, especially Bridie.

Thanks, Barbara, Laurie and Emmett.

Tomorrow, the blow-up collar comes off, and Bridie gets to go to the dog run with Liam.

We're hoping he bounces back.  Even if he doesn't by tomorrow, that may be a good thing with the level of rough-and-tumble Border Collie play maybe decreasing a notch or two.

Happy Tuesday.

A fun preview story about this week's Idaho State Girls Basketball tournament and how the Sandpoint girls have prepared for their big week.

"Are you the lady who's lost?" a lady asked me as I approached the main door to my friend Chris Moon's apartment complex near Central Park back in the early 1980s.

"Not that I know of," I responded, having just taken Chris's standard poodle for a dog walk during my first-ever visit to New York City.

"Are you from Idaho?" she pressed further.

"Yes," I said.

"Well, then you are lost," she responded.

Not wanting to argue my status with a perfect stranger, I just went along with her assumption.

Turns out that while I was walking, someone had inadvertently rung Chris's apartment, and when I wasn't on the other end, she assumed I had gotten lost and had gone into action.

I was quite impressed with how the residents, perfect strangers in far off New York, took such pains to find someone, even if the someone wasn't really lost.

Well, my friend Diane Newcomer from Clark Fork tells another similar tale, only with a different twist and in a totally different setting:  basically her back yard.

Diane and I have known each other for years and have even done a few years of 4-H judging duty together.

So, of course, when I saw the story in the link below, I had to read.  It does not disappoint, especially for anyone who's ever been "lost."
