We haven't really gotten in to Valentine's Day this year.
Bill did give me a pink T-shirt he had purchased a few weeks ago at a ZAGS game.
My sisters seemed relieved last night that there would not be the usual exchange of candy or primroses, etc. which are customary on Valentine's Day.
They don't spend much of their time shopping.
For some reason, we seem to be out of sync with the norms that we followed pretty much every year until 2020.
One aspect of that norm has involved the amount of time spent shopping on-site, whether it's the grocery store or North 40 or downtown shops.
Not much of that going on these days, at least from this household.
Trips to stores involve picking up what's been ordered via curbside or a quick in-and-out to grab some items.
I rather miss all the spontaneous conversations and visiting that shopping for groceries used to inspire.
Used to be when you went to the grocery store for one or two items, you might leave the store half an hour later because of all the gabbing in the aisles.
That aspect of our lives has changed dramatically, at least for us, maybe not so much for others.
And, so when Valentine's Day was approaching, I kept thinking that I should do my usual little gifts but just didn't have the heart for the effort it would take.
That said, I do think some of us family members shared a little semblance of Valentine's Day yesterday when my sisters came over for eats and to watch the Super Bowl.
They brought with them a heart-shaped strawberry cake with some white and dark chocolate heart-shaped pretzels on the side.
The visit---first in many weeks---served us much better than any Valentine exchange of goodies could do.
As for Bill and me, we were going to enjoy our Super Bowl party no matter what and just maintained the attitude that if anyone came, fine, and if they chose to stay home, that was fine too.
We knew we would be content partying by ourselves---which I must say gets REALLY wild if neither of us nods off while watching a game.
I guess our party WAS SUPER wild last night with actual guests and yakkity-yak on a constant roll as we ate our pizza, macaroni and cheese, barbecued beans, chips and strawberry heart cake.
We even had some wild moments toward the end of the game, upon hearing something land on the floor in the kitchen.
Yup, Bridie had just been released from her crate, and she sure was scarfing up that party-sized Stouffers Mac and Cheese which she had just pulled down from the kitchen island.
Bad Bridie!
Don't you know you're only supposed to eat what we feed you as you wind down your 14-day recovery??
I grabbed the pan from beneath her mouth and her fast-moving tongue and set it on the stove.
Almost before I had time to sit back down, we heard another item land on the floor in the kitchen.
Once again, Bridie was nabbed, licking up another big mouthful of Mac n Cheese.
Double bad Bridie!
Didn't seem to matter where I put the pan, she was gonna get it.
And, so we learned, after this very first time of feasting with Bridie in the house, that we have another one of "those" sneaky pups who doesn't mind taking more than her fair share of supposedly strategically placed people food.
I kinda don't blame Bridie, though, cuz I think Mac n Cheese is probably a whole lot tastier than those portions of special veterinary-brand dry dog food.
Still, her thievery added some drama to our Super Bowl party. We were all happy about the game and Cooper Cupp winning Most Valuable player.
Today on Valentine's Day, Bill and I agreed that we have lots of enjoyable times ahead which will far outlast a box of chocolates or some flowers.
Maybe some day we'll get back into the groove of shopping around for nice Valentine's gifts.
For now, we're content chasing dogs away from stealing all the people food.
Happy Monday and sending out LOVE to all.
