While sloshing through mini lakes and trying to avoid squashing angleworms on my way down the lane this morning, I looked down and observed what looked like little fins developing on the side of my boots.
Seriously, that's a stretch, but it won't be long before we need an ark.
Our house is literally surrounded by water. Yesterday afternoon, after several dry hours, my shoes were still squishing with every step taken across the lawn.
This morning those same areas are definitely wet-pant-leg territory.
And, the rain will continue until at least late into the night.
The past few steady down pours have at least happened in warm temps. Not today: there's wind and it's in the 40s.
Just plain miserable.
Indoor activities look like the only option for today. As Bill said earlier, the young basketball players won't be longing to be at the beach when they show up today for a clinic with Alex Sarama.
You can get acquainted with Alex by listening to this podcast from April.
We had the opportunity to meet Alex last night at a little welcoming party coordinated by Willie and Debbie.
The group included present and past coaches, and, by the way, some past coaches never stop strategizing as you can see in the photo where LONG time Sandpoint Hall of Famer coach Duane Ward discusses defense with Alex.
Current SHS girls basketball assistants Madi and Joe listen as Coach Ward wastes no time getting into the nitty gritty of basketball. Coach Kent Leiss also attended.
And, basketball is what brought the group together as Willie noted in a Twitter comment about the gathering.
As for Alex, I must say with enthusiasm that to meet Alex is to know him immediately. He walks into your life as if you've been friends for years.
In our brief encounter, I found him engaging, thoughtful, and filled to the brim with basketball knowledge.
Much of his work focuses on helping basketball coaches from around the world develop their coaching skills.
The kids and coaches are definitely in for a treat today and tomorrow.
Lake City ballers will be participating here in Sandpoint today, and the Sandpoint group will go to Lake City tomorrow.
Alex, originally from England, has been coaching in Italy.
He is spending the next several weeks traveling through America, conducting clinics on what he's learned and what he believes about basketball.
Twas fun for Bill and me to be included in the group last night. Of course, we knew that basketball talk would commence quickly, so we sat at one end of the table with Debbie and Duane's wife Marilyn.
Lots of good catch-up ensued at our end while the coaches enjoyed sharing basketball talk.
We also enjoyed getting to know the rest of the SHS coaching staff.
While we were there, I met a princess.
Had she been in a performance, I asked her mom.
No, she said, noting that the little lady just wanted to wear her pretty dress.
And, the dress and the princess were definitely worth a photo.
And, so, it's a gloomy Monday in June but tolerable, knowing that lots of good and fun times lie ahead over the rest of the month.
Happy Monday. Stay dry.
