While many of my Facebook friends were out chasing beautiful rainbows around the area last night, I was enjoying another other temporary and stunning sight.
Twas an accidental discovery.
I had gone outside after dinner with nothing particular on my agenda.
Suddenly I heard louder fluttering than usual amidst the branches of our service berry bushes, just west of the house.
The usual assortment of small song birds don't make that much noise.
I could see movement through the leaves but couldn't make out what kind of birds were flitting from once branch to another because of evening shadows.
So, I walked around to the west side where the sun was lighting up the bushes.
What a pleasant sight to see the first cedar waxwings of the year!
The blossoms just dropped from the bushes a few days ago, but these birds were not wasting any time snipping off whatever they could find.
They were nice enough while enjoying their dinner to give me time to go back inside and grab my camera.
And, I thought it was especially nice of them to stop pecking at their goodies to do a little posing.
After what they probably figured were enough photo ops for the old lady standing below them, off they soared in a group across the lawn and into the oak tree.
Talk about Kodak moments, ever so brief but oh so rich in images.
I loved these few moments at the end of a day which had started out with CB stepping on the two smaller toes on my right foot.
Just when the pain from the plantar fasciitis had been subsiding, CB must have figured I needed a little humbling.
Adding insult to the injury was his brand new metal shoe.
Fortunately, he didn't press too hard, and the toes didn't bruise much---just a little tender.
Yesterday, I also had to call Tony, the lawnmower wizard at the end of the day.
A rod holding the mower deck broke off and my last swaths on a section of lawn looked more like nasty scrapes than neat grooming.
Tony came out, grabbed the parts, said he'd weld them back together and would bring them out today.
We are SO lucky that he's willing to help out whenever needed.
Today will involve more lawn mowing, and some fence fixing in the barnyard and the pasture where the horses will graze while we are gone.
In the Annie department, she made it back home to Seattle last evening after a wonderful trip to the Scandinavian countries.
It's very apparent that she loves Norway but maybe not so much the extreme daylight or darkness of these places.
Here in North Idaho, we may get a sense of longer days cuz the weather folks tell us we'll have a couple of sunny days before the rain returns for the weekend.
So, we'll make the best of it all.
Happy Tuesday.
