All in a Day . . . .

A beautiful moment on a gorgeous winter day.

In fact, this scene stopped me in my tracks as I walked back from letting the dogs out of the run yesterday afternoon.

And, with a very sore snow-shoveling knee, any excuse to stop in one's tracks will do.

That sky was such a brilliant blue and the poplar, still with lots of leaves, added a golden contrast to the scene.

This morning, I stopped in my tracks again after opening the barn door.

There stood CB in his tracks in the aisle looking back at me.

No, I had not put him in the aisle last night, but I did forget to attend to the double latches on his stall gate.

CB's gate opens and shuts hard, and when I put him in his stall, he always turns around to face me so I can remove his halter and lead rope.

By the time he's facing me, I have shut the stall gate. Most of the time I remember to insert the latch and snap a chain together.

Not so, last night.

So, CB had a literal "hay" day, evidently leaving the stall about halfway through the night.

I knew from observation that he had stayed in his stall long enough to eat every strand of hay and to leave four nice piles of horse apples.

This morning, I discovered that he had replaced "dem apples" with a bunch of red crisp ones just inside the hay area in a bucket and some boxes.

He also had plenty of time to drop a few more substantial deposits of horse apples next to Lily's stall at the end of the aisle.

He loves his Lily; in fact, he's thought she was his mommy ever since he came to the Lovestead as a baby.

So, there was an extra mess or two for me to clean up this morning, and CB, happily, was still hungry when I took him to the barnyard.

You can be sure that my brain will be working over time today and every day after to make sure that stall gate is latched.

I have a feeling the cats stayed atop the hay stack all night and out from under CB's busy hooves as they watched the action down below.

Mooch, the stray cat who decided to stay in our barn with Sunny, is getting friendlier all the time, even occasionally following me to the house.

He never shuts up.  It would be nice to know what he's saying with that nonstop meowing.

Yesterday, Dan, the Schwan's man, showed up just as I was walking back from the road.

So, I took his picture as he backed the truck into the driveway.

Dan is one of a long line of Schwan's men we've had over the years---probably more than 30 at this point.

There's been quite a turnover in the past few years, but it seems like Dan may be sticking with it.

Nice to have Dan and this food service out here in the country.

In other news, we learned for sure yesterday that our friend Dennis Warren is NOT selling Christmas trees from is Gold Creek patch.

Apparently, the early deep snow pack has made it impossible for him to get his 4-wheeler and his little trailer into the patch.

So, he's decided to skip this year.  He said this is the first time the snow has been so deep during selling season.

We'll miss that option because it's been fun driving up to Dennis's place, strolling around the offerings of different sizes and species and picking the perfect tree for our needs.

"They'll be there next year," Dennis assured me.

So, we'll explore other options, probably this weekend.

Sweet Innocence!

In the "you can't make this stuff up," department:

And, here we have Idaho,
Winning her way to shame!

A few months ago, it was the attacks on public librarians here in the state.

For about a year or so and, especially as recently as this past weekend, it's the power struggle between sanity or insanity in determining the direction and leadership of the area's longtime junior college North Idaho College (NIC).

As far as I know, not one item in the story below was made up.  Too bad! And, so sad!

Can't wait until the Idaho Legislature meets in January to talk about public education in Idaho.

Similar entertainment and hair tearing is guaranteed.

We don't need "Saturday Night Live" anymore.  We just have to go to meetings.

Since the story takes a while to read, and I guarantee that you'll want to read every word, I'll shut up and wish everyone a nice Tuesday.

The beat goes on!
