This is what cold looks like out our sliding-glass door.
When that photo was taken yesterday afternoon, the temperature was zero.
As I type, it's minus 8.
But we are in a warm, cozy house, heated by a wood fire.
So, we're surviving the cold snap of 2022.
It will last through the day, with the temperature eventually rising to plus 3 degrees.
Only minus 1 overnight, and then a warming trend with more snow/rain.
Nothing looks as close to perfect as the landscape on a morning like this. No clouds in the sky and the landscape quilted with blankets of snow underneath.
It was cold enough this morning that I came back to the house for ear covering, and, later my legs felt like they were chafing with every step.
As long as we can dress warmly enough, this kind of weather is most desirable for spreading hay for the horses. There's a squeak with every step, but the plowed surface makes walking easy.
Of course, we move along quickly cuz it's so dang cold.
This morning, while finishing up, I thought about how good it was going to feel when I returned to that warm house.
I was also hoping that on this morning, Bill might have cooked up some sausage.
By golly, he had. I could smell it the minute I opened the door to the garage.
I don't eat much breakfast, but each bite from that link of sausage from the neighborhood hog tasted delightful.
On this cold morning, Annie is home but still sleeping. She and her dad arrived home from Spokane long after I went to bed.
The dogs are all waiting anxiously for her to open that bedroom door so they can push each other out of the way to issue her a morning greeting.
We'll be finishing up on Christmas stuff and staying warm today.
It's a good day for stuff like that.
Happy Thursday.
Enjoy the photos and the music.
