Saturday Slight

You clip my toenails. I'll rub your back.

CB was quite happy to accommodate Steve, the farrier, with a little back massage yesterday while he was bent over trimming front hooves.

The horses were all very well-behaved for their mid-winter pedicures.

And, after this session, their hooves should look pretty good come spring.

Twas good that Steve came yesterday because we are entering a winter blast phase with some wind, a little snow and single digit overnight temps.

It won't last long, but the cold temps will firm up the ground for a while.

It was nice to see the light coating of overnight snow, especially for esthetics.  Outdoor scenes have been pretty dirty lately.

It's inevitable but way too early to start dealing with "dirty calf" season.  We definitely had a sampling of it yesterday.

I'm still wondering if my jean calves were plastered with wet mud from the car running board before or after I went to dinner last night.

It's just not cool walking around with dirty calves in public and being totally oblivious of the situation until you make the discovery at home.

Kinda reminds me of the good ol' days in junior high when Mother made me wear seamed nylons to school.

As the only awkward seventh grader in the entire school with seamed nylons, I often walked backward to hide my embarrassing accessories.

Speaking of weird stuff to end this month of January, the local paper had some fascinating topics on the front page this morning.

Outhouse Races today in Spirit Lake.

Coyotes hanging out the 219.

Coyotes biting skiers up at Schweitzer.

Scott Herndon, our local State Senator sponsoring a bill to change marriage procedures in Idaho.

Couples have to pay approximately $30 to get a marriage license in Idaho, so it's probably a good idea to do away with that state income.

Maybe they could replace the marriage license requirement with a new one, which I've often heard some people suggest:  a kid license.

I included the picture below today because I love this actor's story and his performance in the Banshees of Inisherin.

While watching the movie a while back, my first thought as his character unfolded in the story was that the acting was so good it deserved an Academy Award.

And, by golly he's been nominated.  His performance is very deserving of this honor.

from Facebook

Barry Keoghan's recent Oscar nomination for his role in Banshees of Inisherin is another step in a spectacular journey for the Dubliner, who has conquered all odds to become one of the world's best actors.

Having spent seven years in 12 different foster care homes, Keoghan first became involved in acting after answering an ad in a shop window.

From there, the 30 year-old, who has starred in Dunkirk, Love/Hate and Eternals, has gone from strength to strength and, with his recent Academy nomination, has blossomed to the point that his peers have recognised him as among the very best at his craft.

Truly an inspirational story.

Those are Del Bader's stumps at the other end of South Center Valley Road.  They could probably tell some good stories of yesteryear in the Selle Valley.

Lots of college basketball to watch today.

I'll probably head over to Jennifer's Homewood Farm Stand on Shingle Mill Road and pick up some sweet munchies for TV time.

Jennifer puts out some mighty tasty treats.

At 4 p.m. the ZAGS take on Portland's Pilots in Portland.

If they win, they'll probably go down a couple of more notches in the rankings, just the like the 20-2 Lady ZAGS did last week after two solid wins.

Who knows about these rankings, anywho?

It's called subjectivity. Seems to always be an ample supply.

Today's game will be telecast on KHQ Channel 6.

GO, ZAGS!!

Happy Saturday.
