Sun, Country Fun and We Won!

Ultimate ZAGS fan

Miss Letty lives next door at the Schubarth's.

She's a French Bulldog.

She knows a good basketball game when she sees it, especially when Bulldogs are playing.

After a few bumps in the road, the ZAGS returned to their winning ways last night, making Letty and the whole ZAG Nation proud and happy.

Great win, ZAGS!

Twas a Saturday filled with good ingredients:  sunshine, warmth, great television sporting events, tasty treats and fun conversation with different folks throughout the day.

Seeing that the roadside Homewood Farm Stand had reopened after installing a security system and that the offerings included some Guinness brownies, I drove over to the stand.

The trip through the Selle Valley was gorgeous with sun beams inspiring the fields of snow to glisten. Occasional pockets of water and wet grass added an extra touch of beauty and a sense of early early spring.

Snow white mountains surrounding the valley provided additional jaw-dropping scenes.

Everything looks so much better when the sun is shining, it seems. After so many gray, wet days, this bright Saturday boosted the inner spirits transforming one into an almost celebratory mood.

After visiting briefly with Jennifer's hubby and their handsome little daschund, I began my shopping, first pulling aside a couple of brownies with generous white frosting infused with whiskey.

Next came the colorful coffee cake, flavored with rum and plums and individually wrapped in big squares.

Finally, I couldn't resist the old-fashioned, giant chocolate chip cookies.

Two of each of the above would more than satisfy Bill and me and allow me to hand over an assortment to Willie and Debbie.

I put my money in the slot, filled a brown paper bag with goodies, took it to the car and told Foster to stay out of it while I took a few pictures.

During that time, another car pulled up and parked, and guess what?  I would soon meet another new friend from the general neighborhood.

Kathy and I found an instant bond the minute the word "horse" entered the conversation. She owns Tennessee Walkers, and she has loved horses all her life.

Just as I was telling her about a book I'm reading, called Horse, she excitedly told me that she had just finished it.

I also told her about the Emerald Empire Arabian Club which welcomes Arabian owners AND members with other breeds.

Guess what?

Kathy has since joined the Arabian club AND last evening, while texting,  I learned that her grandfather came from Malin Head in County Donegal, Ireland, the same place my mother's ancestors lived.

Pretty neat "small world" knowledge gained from a quick visit to a country farm stand.

After returning home, sampling the brownies and spending some time watching the end of a college basketball game, I took the extra farm-stand treats over to Willie and Debbie's house in Colburn.

Willie was off at the school helping at some JV basketball games while Debbie was simply enjoying the day. My two sisters soon showed up, and all sampled those yummy, moist frosted brownies with the whiskey zip.

We had a great time gabbing away and catching up during this mid-winter upbeat day.

And, so the sun came out and did its duty, providing us all with some fun moments blended with delectable treats and good company, topped off by grand finale on our TV screens with that very welcome ZAGS win.

At least for now, all is copacetic, but, of course, the day is young!

Happy Sunday.
