Saturday Slight

Sally was almost finished drying my hair when the text came.

Sandpoint Optical was letting me know that my new glasses were in.

It was a drop-dead beautiful cold day in Sandpoint.

The wind, which had driven temperatures down below zero had ceased, so the cold air felt tolerable.

And to add to the situation, that wind had scooped up a lot of snow from many spots and blown it into drifts somewhere else.

Lots of bare, frozen ground with some ice but still manageable, so I had brought along my hiking shoes, just in case my light Skecher loafers might not work with whatever walking I planned in town.

No need for the hikers, though.  Such a wonderful freedom of movement I enjoyed, not lugging big boots or heavier shoes.

Twas one of those situations where the little creature comforts turn really big, especially being able to wear street shoes on the streets in the dead of winter.

Sally had added some more color to my hair and had trimmed it, so I was also enjoying a new lease on life with the fresh "do."

I left the salon and could not get to the optical store fast enough, even though it was a short drive to the lot next door.

Rosalee brought out the box, and, by golly, there were the prescription sunglasses I had ordered two weeks ago.

Why all the excitement?

I haven't worn sunglasses for two years because my eyes were just getting ready for cataract surgery, which will happen later this year.

So, it's glasses indoors and do your best outdoors.

With that in mind, at my last eye appointment I bit the bullet and asked if I could order new glasses AND some prescription sunglasses that didn't look dorky.

I have always self-indulged when selecting sunglasses.  Rosalee had told me there was a rack with the Maui variety but they were spendy.

So, I disciplined myself not to even look at those and happily found a set I liked in the mid-range collection. A little bling on the sides and black frames and stylish.

So, I sprung and purchased a set of sunglasses which, with the prescription, I could not only wear but could also see something besides blur.

Gotta try these out, I thought as I walked to the car with the new glasses.

And, so on this drop-dead gorgeous, cold February day, I drove to a perfect sunglasses testing area:  Sandpoint City Beach.

Those mountains may have been more gorgeous than ever yesterday, and if they weren't, my new sunglasses told me they were.

I walked around, feeling free and springy in my Skechers, carrying my camera and quietly gasping with glee as the most beautiful sights which we Sandpoint natives have seen and loved for a lifetime looked more beautiful than ever.

Twas a great and uplifting day, and I'm looking forward to the clarity of many more gorgeous scenes on this earth now that I can wear fun sunglasses and get the full vision deal looking through those lenses.

Enjoy the photos, and don't forget that this is GAME day, a big GAME and payback day with Gonzaga hoping to clean up on St. Mary's in the Kennel.

7 p.m. PST on ESPN and some ESPN Game Day stuff from Gonzaga this morning.

GO, ZAGS!

Happy Saturday.
