Saturday Slight

"Though I do not believe a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders."

                                                                  --Henry David Thoreau

This is the day designated on the calendar as Earth Day.

The day serves as a simple reminder that if we derive enjoyment and sustenance from the Earth, we should take care of the planet---just like we do our animals, our vehicles, our families and ourselves.

It's a beautiful day to celebrate the Earth and maybe to do a few things to help the planet survive and to make it a better place.

That said, I may just plant some stuff today. There's no better reminder of the benefits of our planet than to plant, nurture and enjoy watching things grow.

Yesterday, Bill finished assembling the second stand-up planter, and I went to town to pick up some potting soil.

One planter is filled with soil, and the other will be soon.

They'll be standing in a safe place, our smaller kennel which is enclosed by a deer-proof fence.

So, I'm looking forward to doing some gardening work there.

I'm also looking very forward to using the equipment which Tony, the wizard, repaired yesterday.

The list included the Kubota tractor, two riding lawnmowers and the mini rototiller, which gets used about 15 minutes a year.

All are running now and ready to go.

Bill and I appreciate Tony so much because he has provided us wonderful service for about 20 years.

It's amazing to watch him work.

I've included a few pictures today of him at work and of his "office."

Surprisingly, Tony knows where to find things in his unique method of organization.

Yesterday's maintenance and planter work signaled the beginning of "getting on with life" for us.  This past month has been fraught with the stress of taxes, big payments and nonstop clean-up of the place.

For some reason, yesterday's blend of afternoon sunshine and the knowledge that we are at last ready to go with pleasant spring projects felt almost like magic.

Twas a confluence of all things good.

We'll take it.

And, I can't wait to get out there and put my hands in the soil on this Earth Day 2023.

It'll be a good day and promises to be an even nicer week ahead.

YAY!

Happy Saturday.  Enjoy your little segment of the Earth today.
