Maintenance Week

It's looking like another great day today: gentle breeze, blue sky, sun, not looking too hot or too cold.

The lawn is mowed.

The house is fairly presentable.

Annie's home.

Willie brought her home from the airport after finishing up at a weeklong Gonzaga basketball camp.

The local teams did well with their learning and their playing, losing just two games out of a dozen during a weekend tournament and while participating in the camp.

Annie will be working remotely today, and Willie says he'll be catching up on his sleep.

The dogs are thrilled to see Annie home.  Just like kids with company, they've got to check on her, and they'll be happy to play with her too.

The happiest dog of the three is Mr. Foster.  His person is home, and that's the best.

Yesterday the horses had their shoes changed. Steve brought along Kyle Hoodenpyle from the Vay area, who just graduated from farrier school in Northern California.

Kyle took care of Lily's hooves with ease, so much so that Lily fell asleep while Kyle worked.

Kyle has horses of his own, and his quiet manner seems to go well with his job.

In addition to his schooling, Kyle has been working with Steve for some time.

I told Kyle I'd do a shout-out for him as he starts his own farrier business.

His telephone number is 208-946-7494.

Trims are $50.

Half shoeing:  $70

Full shoeing: $90

Give him a try.

By the way, Steve does a great job too.  He's just not looking for any more customers.

When you have an inch, scratch it.

Lefty tends to have a lot of itches in the summer time, so he's gotten his belly scratching down to a science.

What's on those horses' minds?

Well, Bert Wood had a big tractor and a fertilizer spreader in the Meserve Preserve next door.

So, of course, the horses were curious.

I've always said that horses are much more vigilant than dogs.  If a dog is barking, often it's a false alarm.

If a horse is looking with its ears up, you can bet on the fact that something unusual has gotten its attention.

When the farriers leave, it's doggy delight time.

Lots of pieces of hoof for them to claim and chew on.

Today, Tony, the wizard, will be coming to figure out what's wrong with my zero-turn mower and why the tractor still doesn't have much power.

It doesn't want to start, and we noticed a gas leak yesterday.

Hope it's nothing too serious cuz I do love my zero-turn.

Last fall, when the tractor started having similar problems, Tony suggested that it may need a new clutch. At that time, he simply tightened a bolt, and that seemed to do the trick.

Fingers crossed that the fix isn't too spendy.

This has definitely turned into a full-fledged maintenance week.

Happily, we have good people to help us out.

Ahh, farm life!

Happy Friday. Enjoy this beautiful weather.
