Bridie took time out after her chores to smell some daisies this morning.
Twas kind of a big-time neighbor day for us yesterday.
We experienced a couple of neighbor visits here at the Lovestead. We also saw two different sets of neighbors during our Friday-night dinner.
Finally, we sat and visited with neighbors at the Selle Valley Creamery while enjoying an ice cream cone.
The day began with Boston who lives on Selle Road. She came over to ride Lily. It was her first time on Lily, and she got along just fine.
After Boston finished riding, Bill came out and asked, "Are you going to ride now?"
Sounded like a good idea, so Boston held Lily while I climbed aboard, taking her for a short spin down the driveway and back.
I hadn't sat in my roping saddle for a number of years, and that was a shock with its big, wide seat. Of course, there was plenty of my seat to fill it.
Later, Richard, also from the Selle area came to look at our barnyard horse shelter which suddenly has some support injuries.
Horses love to nibble, and horses do kick at each other occasionally. We figured that someone kicked at someone else and missed, connecting with one of the support beams which they had nibbled on for years.
When I discovered something different with the shed, I looked closer and saw that the support beam was now in two pieces.
So, Richard, a contractor, is going to do some strengthening repairs and straighten the beams. He'll also fix some damaged roofing (from ice dams two winters ago) on our deck.
After Richard left, I took a set of my books over to the fairgrounds where the Spots of Fun Open Horse Show is happening this weekend.
Moriha Leen Yetter was there, carrying on the torch left by her parents Moreen and Kenny who passed away over the winter.
The Leen family has organized the show for years, and this year others have pitched in to see that it keeps going and honors Moreen and Kenny's memory.
So, if you're around town this weekend, and looking for something to do, head to the fairgrounds and watch some horse-show action.
As always, several donated raffle items will be given away, so while watching riders win their prizes, you could win something too.
Meanwhile, back to my neighbor day.
While at dinner, we spent some time talking with one of the Murray boys who lives just south of us on Selle Road.
Bill always likes to credit "Murray Electric" and Boston's dad Trent (both parties associated with Northern Lights, Inc.) with keeping our electricity going.
Finally, we stopped by Selle Valley Creamery, where owner Brad and Bill started talking fishing. Fishing eventually led to an ice cream cone for each of us, and that later led to "Come on over and sit down."
So, we walked over to where Brad's family and friends were sitting and enjoyed a good ol' neighborly visit.
Twas a fun and satisfying day filled great reminders how much fun and meaningful our neighborhood connections can be.
Today we'll tend to some projects around here, which, as always, include a little lawn mowing and garden watering and later doing whatever possible to beat the heat.

Brad Miller, owner of Selle Valley Creamery, held my ice cream cone so I could take his picture.
The creamery, on Selle Road about a mile from HWY 95, often serves hamburger dinners and ice cream on Thursday and Friday nights in the summer.
