Critters and Such

I hadn't filled the bird feeders for a few days.

When I did so yesterday, within about 15 minutes, the gang of diners started showing up.

Woodpeckers and song birds and squirrels and deer, oh my!

Actually, the deer waited a while, but they did stand around eyeing those feeders from a safe distance, probably planning for a later dinner hour.

So far, and, with fingers crossed, I can say that no turkeys have come to the feeders.

I hope the gobblers stay away and leave the goodies for the regulars.

We had lots of time to enjoy the activity at the feeders yesterday because this is "Feast Week" in the sports world.

So, more than enough TV watching and bird watching from the living room.

Bill and I both got hooked on a Maui tournament game between UConn and Memphis and ended up watching the whole game, which went back and forth and back and forth and finally into overtime where Memphis upset No. 2 UConn.

With Gonzaga ranked No. 3, there are possibilities if they do well in their upcoming tournament in the Bahamas.

In their first game tomorrow, they take on West Virginia.

In the meantime, we'll keep an eye on some of the other teams doing tournament action during "Feast Week."

Bill said yesterday that Virginia Tibbs would be beaming.

She probably was, knowing that one of her granddaughters and one of her great-granddaughters met up in Cork, Ireland, for dinner yesterday.

That would be Annie and Aggie.

Aggie is spending the semester of her sophomore year abroad in beautiful Cork while taking classes through the University of Wyoming.

Sounds like the two had a great time.

Any time family members can get together to enjoy each other, it's a good time.

It's especially exciting when younger generations make the effort to get together and carry on with meaningful ways to preserve the family heritage and its glue.

Speaking of which, Mother would also be thrilled to know that Annie packed some dressing and some mushroom soup in her bag when she left for Ireland.

In her mind, Grandma's holiday dressing was the best ever.

So, with Thanksgiving coming up this week, Annie's hoping to stay in a place with a kitchen where she can make Grandma's dressing recipe as part of her Thanksgiving dinner in Ireland.

Today she's driving the Ring of Kerry on yet another nice day.  Tomorrow she heads north toward Westport.

These photos were taken at the Rock of Cashel and in Cork City.

Yesterday Foster and I enjoyed another walk through the woods.

Our route took us past the huge Lodgepole which inspired us to start the Lodgepole Society where we would induct visitors as they stood admiring it with its double trunk.

Several years ago, however, the tree collapsed with both trunks falling the opposite each other.

It's still a remarkable sight to see those huge, now bare trunks providing a centerpiece for our far pasture.

Transitional period.

We're ready for raking or snowing, pulling wagons, shoveling or plowing.

I hope transitional period lasts as long as possible.
