Pretty amazing.
I awoke at the same time as usual this morning, with no external prodding.
Must be my body has been around the sun enough times that it remembers this change at the beginning of spring.
Nobody told the birds about the time change.
They were still in their respective beds when Bridie and I went outside at 6:30.
We walked with a flashlight and heard not a sound of the bird chorus all the time we were walking down the lane and around the hay field.
Our route was different today too, as we stuck to the field rather than going into the woods.
Later, after taking Bridie back to the house, I went on my third walk of the day----to get the paper.
By that time, a little daylight was coming, but I still kept the flashlight on because I walk the road before grabbing the paper.
And, by that time, the birds were waking up and welcoming the day with melodic greetings.
And, so we have begun daylight savings time for 2025, and we'll stick with it unless another one of those executive orders with the giant signatures and fancy booklets comes out stating that we won't be having Daylight Savings time this term.
It's been threatened, and, like the tariffs, we might be on Daylight Savings for a day and then back to standard for a day or two and then back to Daylight Savings cuz the stock market drops.
Who knows! At this time, I know what I know and it's Daylight Savings, at least as long as I'm typing this post.
I also know that little buds are coming out with the promise of leaves popping out in the next few weeks.
I hope nobody imposes any executive orders on them!
And, the iris bulbs are sending signs of spring.
It's still hard to find many tangible signs of spring in the plants, bushes and grass, but when the birds do get up and start singing, we know that good times are ahead, including playing with soil and seeds and then cussing the weeds.
It all happens so fast, and today's time change is a signal to get ready to roll into spring.
Yesterday I went over to Roxane's to do some more spring cleaning on my horses and was thrilled to see that Janet had put the saddle on Traveler.
She has faithfully treated his bowed tendon and has walked beside him to provide him exercise virtually every day since October.
I've never seen such dedication, and it paid off for both Janet and Traveler as they spent a few minutes walking around around the indoor arena.
Hats off to Janet and to Traveler.
Congratulations to Bonners Ferry High School boys basketball for taking the Idaho State Championship in their division for the second consecutive year.
The team has been a North Idaho phenomenon with their single loss for the year and a consistent record of knocking off teams from higher divisions.
Neat accomplishment.
We're still waiting for the ZAGS to play again, and that will be tomorrow night when they play either WSU or San Francisco to move on toward the WCC Championship.
Can't wait for more ZAGS fixes.
It's so blah, blah, blah outside right now that I get desperate for photos. Fortunately, the artistic patterns in some tree roots in the front yard helped me out yesterday.
I hate those roots because they keep rising out of the ground a little more each year. And, that takes a lot of fun out of mowing the lawn.
I wish I could figure out how to get rid of them, but since that doesn't seem possible, at least I can take pictures of them.
And, tonight, with extra daylight, my picture opportunities could see some changes.
Happy Sunday.
Finally, I love this song, especially because our family has made several visits to Derry, Northern Ireland, which has endured a sad history.
Expand your screen as you listen.
Hope you enjoy.
