Trip to Green Bay; TBT

Recent news articles have announced that Green Bay Forest Service Campground southeast of Sandpoint on Lake Pend Oreille has now reopened after being closed for renovations over the past year.

There's a campground host, and the campground has received a new look.

New signs, new facilities and probably a few new rules give one a sense that things have really changed.

Happily, one aspect has not changed, and that's the stunning beauty of Lake Pend Oreille which can be captured in pictures, but is so much more spectacular when viewed in person.

While we were eating dinner and watching the news last night, Bill mentioned that we should drive out there to see the changes.

I thought that it would be a good idea not to waste any time fulfilling that suggestion.

After all, it was hot, and the drive in air conditioning would be comfy for us and the dogs.

So, we took off as soon as the news ended.

The trip did not disappoint.

After all, when the route includes the Long Bridge across Lake Pend Oreille and beautiful rural settings, often accentuated by wildlife, all to be topped off with amazing pristine lake views at the campground itself, you can't go wrong.

Once there, we observed that vehicles do not go to camping spots.  They stay at parking lots located near the camping areas.

Either the campground host lets paid campers in with their vehicles to unload and set up, or there's work and walking to be done between the vehicles and the camping spots.

Whatever the case, campers seemed content, and many were having a good time preparing meals, swimming or sitting around a campfire.

Hat's off to the Forest Service employees for their restoration efforts.

The place was impressive before, but its newness and a better road leading into the campground have added a nice touch.

Hard to compare Green Bay to other magnificent and breath-taking spots on Lake Pend Oreille, but with its impressive views, brand new amenities and surrounding beauty, it could rank right at the top.

Talk about the end of an era.

The Appaloosa Horse Club being moved away from "Palouse" country seems a bit hard to accept.

History moves on, I guess.
