At the Show

Third day could be a charm, if you haven't attended the Emerald Empire Arabian Club September Showcase.

With today being the last day of classes, spectators or exhibitors alike can still win prizes.

Several silent auction items are on display on tables west of the indoor arena at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

Proceeds from these offerings will go into the coffers for the youth judging team to compete in the Arabian Nationals next month in Tulsa, Okla.

Plus, you always win when you get to see pretty horses and accomplished riders at their best.

Classes begin at 9 a.m. and, with a lunch break, will go into the afternoon. And, the show is free.

So, stop by with a few cans of food for the food bank and enjoy on this final day of showing.

And, for now, enjoy images from yesterday's activities.

It turns out this first-place winner (above) in one of yesterday's Emerald Empire Arabian Club September Showcase is still doing great things with horses 50 years later.

Good job, Barbara.

HORSEMANSHIP AWARDS FOR LOCAL GIRLS

Debbie Downen and Barbara Tibbs have passed extensive tests for the first Idaho Horsemanship Award, the ultimate of awards for young horsemen in Idaho.

Debbie, 17, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Downen, is a Mountain Mavericks 4-H club member; Barbara, 15, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tibbs, belongs to the Schweitzer Valley Dwellers 4-H.

They were selected based on their scores on a written examination, rail work, grooming and handling, and an oral demonstration.

The Sandpoint High School Class of 1979 had a mini reunion at the horse show.

Show announcer Anne O'Brien Aizawa, Laurie Tibbs and Becky Meserve Colpaert had a nice visit after a few decades some not seeing each other.

Maryann Boseth took first in a colorful Arabian costume class.

My favorite new and beautiful horse sighting at the show.  This big boy, an Arabian-Westphalian Warmblood cross,  and his owner Colleen Kramer came down from Canada to participate.

And, by golly, Stewy won plaque sponsored by the Lovestead.

That's Colleen and her friend Robin below.

Jasper's sisters told me that one of their little brother's middle names is Wolfgang.

That was music to my ears!

Our neighbors from the Meserve Preserve came to the show.  Shawn said he'd never been to a horse show so he was happy to learn about the basics.
