Geocaches and Bonding

Annie likes to promote "family bonding."  She's been an advocate for years, always figuring when she's home, we need to find some way to nurture our ties that bind.

Well, yesterday's family bonding involved a geocaching trip to a couple of places on the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille.  Later, it was burger bonding, when Willie and Debbie came over for dinner.

We had planned a deck party, but weather was not cooperating, so plans got scaled down a bit.

And, when we went to "Sunny"side, we missed most of the sun.

Our search for geocaches, however, took us to some beautiful spots, most of them a part of the Idaho Fish and Game property along Sunnyside Road.

The plot includes remnants left from an old homestead, some open flat grassy areas and some good hill climbs leading into brilliantly green moss-covered boulders or to breath-taking views of the lake.

In one case, I felt like we'd come onto a scene from "Lord of the Rings," and to find find an unconcerned wild bunny, who remained content to pose all the while as Annie and I snapped photos----that added to the feeling and offered a pleasant sidelight to our search for caches.

We failed to find one particular cache after climbing some steep game trails.  Turns out that some of the descriptive information about the cache was playfully misleading.  Some folks suggest that reading the description more closely would have helped.

While searching for that cache, we dealt with a relentless soaking rain, with a few hail stones mixed in.

Of course, once we arrived back at the car, the sky turned blue,  and the sun was shining, but not for long.  Yesterday was a typical April day, with plenty of showers for those May flowers.

Wood's burgers tasted pretty good as we watched the Mariners lose one more time.

Things will get better for the Mariners, and the weather is supposed to improve considerably in the next 24 hours.

Our family bonding succeeded, and we'll maybe do a little more today before Annie heads back to Seattle.

Happy Sunday.
