Saturday Slight

Just a couple of days ago, I took the top picture over behind Samuels Store while searching for a geocache.  That's Walsh Lake, surrounded by the last of the fall colors.

I found my fourth cache at the base of a cottonwood tree and then took time to just enjoy the beauty of the place while walking back to the pickup.

The second photo was taken just a few minutes ago.  Please note the snow weighting down the spruce limbs in the background.  And, also observe that the driveway has been plowed.

Most importantly, however, just look at that dry deck.  I love it!  We may not be doing any barbecuing in the next few days, but that doesn't mean we can't.

I have actually gone this whole morning without yet cussing the snow.  It's heavy stuff and no fun shoveling, but it's warm and wet and moves easily with the rear tractor blade.

Have already plowed the lane, the areas in front of the far shed and the barn as well as the driveway.  Later, I'll go out and pretty it up a bit, moving those stubborn balls of snow that escape the blade.

The horses are fed, the house is toasty with a the first fire in the stove, and this initial real day of snow for this winter isn't too bad yet-----well, I HAVE gone out to clear off the satellite dish.

Even that is easier, though, because a shovel on the deck and steps on the south end make it easy to open a foot path to the ladder leading to the dish.

The photo below was taken when the wet stuff started falling yesterday, just as Debbie and Jason Farnham arrived for his induction into our Lodgepole Society.  It's nice to have a talented musician among the mix of members who have joined the society over the past seven years.

Anyway, we're in to winter, and things did take longer this morning---donning rain pants, slipping into somewhat tight barn boots, cleaning four or five inches of snow off the pickup before moving it to let the tractor out.

And, the maintenance ahead to clear ways to the dog run and keep pathways open for feeding will keep me pretty busy today.

I totally slugged out on the couch yesterday after coming home from my hair appointment.  The laziness felt good.

My late afternoon/evening involved just a few trips to feed animals and, of course, to clean off the satellite dish----otherwise, watching miscellaneous stuff on TV and just plain relaxing.

Bill was gone for the night at his SAF convention in Cheney, so the house was pretty quiet except for an occasional small roar when snow slid from the roof on the west side.  I made it about halfway through "Shark Tank" before nodding off and deciding my day of rest needed some more rest.

Lots of little projects topped off by a company Christmas party ahead, so I'll wish all a happy Saturday.

The deck is great. Will you be adding hand rails at the steps for when us older friends visit...or even for you younguns when there is snow and ice on them?

One thing at a time. We're thinking about railing and deciding. I'm sure as we all age, the deck will have accessories.
