Dover Bay: Fun for All Species

When the men have gone fishin', the women find ways to play too. And, what better place than Dover Bay.

Ralph:  you and your visionaries did well. It's a lovely place for families and friends to play and to enjoy nature.

To backtrack a bit, yes, the men have gone fishing on the St. Joe River, and they're staying at Red Ives, a former ranger station built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

Getting to stay at Red Ives, which is a long ways from anything,  is a lottery of sorts.  Put your name in by a certain date, and, if you're lucky, it will be drawn for each year's temporary tenants.

Bill, Willie and Andrew headed to Red Ives yesterday, and we'll know if all turned out okay when they return Wednesday.   Surely, there will be a fish story or two.

In their absence, the women are engaged in a quasi communal schedule.  Do what you need to get down during work time and then get together to play and eat.

This week that's a good idea cuz it's hot, and work time might shorten a bit.

Yesterday's plan:  go to Dover Bay and check out the swimming area.  Our take after spending a couple of hours there:  it's a great swimming area and others we know have discovered that too----dogs, people and geese, for sure.

We ran into old friends and former neighbors, so we were feeling quite at home while getting introduced to new dogs who were truly enjoying their dog day at Dover.

I saw my first Japanese Spitz among the canine crew.  This little guy is just 12 weeks old and pretty well behaved for a young 'un.  They're companion dogs, and it was apparent he was enjoying his family.

I also met Jax, a Yorkie belonging to my former student Robin.  Robin is a former Coldwater Creek employee, who with a whole lot of her friends and colleagues, found herself looking for work when the apparel company announced its upcoming nationwide closure.

As I write, Robin is probably on her way or already on the job on the first day of her new position at Bonner General Health, where she'll be working for the nonprofit foundation.

To say she was excited would be an understatement. During our conversation, Robin, a sushi aficionado, gave me several reasons that I need to take the big leap and try my first bite.

It may be a while, but I'd hate to disappoint Robin.  So, that day may come.

In the meantime, we women need to figure out what the recreational schedule is for today----after the work's done, of course.

Maybe we'll have to go back to Dover Bay, or maybe it will be the Sunnyside F & G beach. Whatever the case, we can't go wrong on a hot day in North Idaho.

Happy Monday.
