Upbeat Happenings

It's a lovely "morning after mowing" here at the Lovestead.

I always love "mornings after mowings," even if today's freshly cut lawn includes a thin, white carpet produced from yesterday's relentless cottonwood storm.

I actually thought we were over the cottonwood blizzards for this year.

  Not!

At least, the rain showers bypassed our place during mowing time.

Post-lawn mowing days are always nice because every trip outside offers a glorious scene pretty much any direction.

This morning's first encounter with the outdoors offered a colorful sky with welcome blue backdrop accented by artistic patches of pink and white clouds.

The scene promised a relaxing and upbeat day ahead, as did the news when I came back inside for my first cup of coffee and web surfing.

So refreshing and uplifting to see an abundance of happy news stories and beloved traditions rising from the dark and sad clouds of the Pandemic.

Broadway's opening and the promise of "To Kill a Mockingbird" opening in October, dozens of photos of high school and even kindergarten graduates in their caps and gowns---these replacing the array of beautiful prom photos posted earlier this week--it's comforting and exciting.

All politics aside, I have also enjoyed seeing our President and his wife at a summit in Great Britain, and how could I not mention how much I LOVED the "LOVE" bling on our First Lady's jacket!

Always a good message.

Speaking of Broadway and "Love," our daughter Annie is headed for New York City tonight.

Why?

Because she can.

She'll spend the weekend enjoying the Big Apple and reconnecting with some of her friends, including one with whom she shares Camino de Santiago pilgrimage experiences.

Yesterday, after completing my lawn-mowing marathon, I sat down on the couch with my iphone and soon discovered that Twitter was all alive with tweets from throughout the world congratulating one of our own from Sandpoint.

Sandpoint High graduate and Vatican Bureau Chief for Catholic News Service had been named this year's recipient of the St. Francis de Sales Award for  Outstanding Contribution to Catholic journalism.

It's the highest award given by the Catholic media.

I've included a couple of notable tweets from among the many I read yesterday congratulating Cindy.

It's obvious that the former assistant editor of the Sandpoint High School Cedar Post newspaper has reached a notable pinnacle in her phenomenal career as a journalist running a news bureau and traveling the world while covering three Roman Catholic popes.

You can learn more about Cindy's award in the link below.

And, you can bet that all of us from the hometown crowd of classmates, teachers, friends and family are beyond proud.

Congratulations, Cindy.
