Autumn Joy

Another pretty day in autumn; another day filled with happy memories.

Could every day please be like this?

We probably wouldn't want that because we need ugly days to appreciate the good ones and bad times to appreciate the blessings of our lives.

Seems there's plenty of both, so when we get our  week's worth of glorious fall days, we know we'll pay.

Thus, it's important to savor every good moment in preparation for the grumpy, blah times ahead.

My day yesterday included the triumph of going to the tack room in the barn and finding five mousetraps with no carnage and a cat dish with no mouse turds.

That means the culmination of another round of clearing out the herd which hides in the nooks and crannies and underneath places of the barn, waiting for their opportunities invade the cat dish in the tack room.

I'll leave the traps cocked and loaded should the invasion begin again.

This achievement makes me happy because I have philosophical concerns about spending money to purchase more and more Meow Mix to feed the mice.

I know I've mentioned this before, and I have expressed my severe disappointment to Sunny several times about shirking her barn-cat duties.

I still can't figure out why she happily lounges in her cat condo and watches mice eat her food.

Could be because I keep supplying it.

Anywho, attaining a lull in the mouse invasion made me happy yesterday.

I also was pretty happy with CB.  He loaded into the trailer twice without being coaxed by a second person. Bill was there both times, just in case.

He did experience one mishap during our session at my sisters' arena.

Seems the stirrup on the saddle connected with the plastic fencing as he walked into the arena.  It scared him.  He stepped on the edge of my foot and a board went flying through the air.

Happily, CB settled down quickly and we moved on with our plans, which included our first trot over a couple of obstacles.

Because there were more horses at the trail obstacle practice yesterday, CB had to stand in line longer than usual.

This is just not easy when you're young and easily distracted.  So, to make that slack time more interesting, CB initiated several segments of head bobbing.

Not wanting to make a scene or to cause chaos within the horse line, I tried to ignore his naughty behavior.

Later, Laurie gave me the formula for stopping the bobbing, which sounds easy enough.  The nice part is that the other participants are pretty patient about the old woman and the young horse.

So, we'll make it through that challenge, next time, I hope.

After taking a lunch and coffee break, I asked Foster if he'd like to GO on a drive with me.

Mere mention of the word "GO," which we've learned to spell out in conversation (just like s-q-u-i-r-r-e-l), sets Foster into motion on all cylinders.

Yes, of course, he's ready to G-O any time.

So off we went. I do wonder when he's riding shotgun with me these days how much, if anything, he sees out the window, but that's okay with him.

He's in mini-Aussie dog Heaven every time.

We drove part of the Sunnyside Loop yesterday, and, of course, the lake was pretty as ever.

Plus, it the drive created a memory filled with colorful reasons why we love the fall and why we love where we live.

And, by golly, another beauty is unfolding today.

I'll probably mow a little lawn and just hang out enjoying the day.

Company's coming and hopefully there'll be more good memories with the visits.

Happy Wednesday.
