Ubiquitous Ed and Lady Bug

Mark that three times.

Three different pretty places.

Yesterday's pretty place was the drift yard near Clark Fork on Lake Pend Oreille.

There has been mention of possible family kayaking over the next couple of days.

Bill said someone had better check the water level.

That was a good enough excuse for me to grab Foster and my camera and fulfill the assignment.

We checked Trestle Creek and Denton Slough and finally the drift yard.

Seems like the water hasn't gone down enough yet to hamper launching if we go.

The drift yard not only offers lovely scenery but also lots of room for walking.

So, after checking the boat launch area, Foster and I started off down a trail.

It wasn't long before I spotted a scene much like I'd seen before.

A man and his dog and his easel.

Yup, sure enough, it was Ed Robinson, Bill's former boss at the Idaho Dept. of Lands.

Ed and his Lady Bug had gone on a painting camping trip.  The drift yard would be their second night in the camp trailer, parked not far from where Ed had set up his easel and paints.

When Foster and I arrived, he was working on a plein air piece featuring the Green Monarch Mountains off to the south across the lake.

And, Lady Bug, the young Border Collie?

She was having a great time hanging out with Ed and then welcoming Foster.

It was truly amazing how the two dogs got along, especially when Foster can't see much, if anything.

While dogs enjoyed each other's company, Ed and I visited and chuckled about how we keep meeting like this.

Bill and I have been hiking twice, once at McArthur Lake and another time at the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge where we've met up with Ed, out there painting to his heart's content.

What a way to spend retirement!  My outings are similar, only I carry along a camera.

We spent a lot of time talking about Lady Bug as I was meeting her for the first time since Ed and his wife Karen adopted her from a shelter.

Bill and Ed have compared notes quite often about our Bridie and Ed's Lady Bug, as we've gone through the same stages of puppydom at pretty much the same time.

It's obvious, as it is with all Border Collie owners, that there's a love affair going on.  Ed truly loves his newest dog.

On my way back, I saw a couple soaking up the sun near the shore.  Turns out she was a math teacher at Sandpoint High after I retired.

She sat on the hiring panel which selected Mr. Will Love for the Sandpoint High faculty.

When teachers get together, there's no shortage of topics to discuss, so Beth and I had a great time getting acquainted.

And, so today, we know that kayaks can still go into the water, and I've met both Lady Bug and Beth.

Twas a nice afternoon of research, picture taking and visiting.

And, in such a lovely place along the lakeshore.

Wonder where we'll run into Ed and Lady Bug next time.

I'm sure it will be a place "pretty as a picture."

Also, my friend Connie has put together a blog post about the Cougar Creek Band getting together at a friend's cabin.

Connie plays in the band.  Some may have seen them performing on the lawn at Trinity Restaurant, among other places.

Happy Thursday.
